Hello guys this may seem stupid but someone in my racing club said that if i take my air temp sensor in the tubbing going up the the throttle body and put it in a bucket full of ice the computer will think it is winter or the air is very cold and dump more fuel in my engine thus giving me alittle bit more power. Is this true or false of just plain stupid?
P.S. I race in the hornet division on a half mile oval asphalt track.

It is partly true. Thing is our cars usually run rich from the factory so adding more fuel can make it worse, and not give you anymore power. Could loose power. You truly want the ECU to know the correct temp of the air it is getting.

How exactly do they propose to keep the ice from melting?
i find it amusing that SHOoff has nothing better to do but follow me around & be an unhelpful dick in even cross-forum. - Jon Mick
One time before I went out on the strip, I put a screen in my intake hose and removed the paper filter and filled the box with ice. Didn't gain anything, but I figured it was worth a shot. Had a lot of leftover ice from the night before... It's really as John said it, tricking the computer isn't the way to go. It needs to know those readings for a reason. If it wasn't important, it wouldn't be there. TUNE it and get it working on your side. I guarantee it can make quicker decisions than you.
