To run a set of comp cams 1.6:1 roller rockers in my 1999 2.2 liter, could I basically just get a set of pushrod guideplates from a 95-97 cavalier and install those? I am rebuilding my factory engine after getting f**ked over on the other engine I bought, and I figured this would be much easier to do than set up a custom stud kit.
Hope is not a plan. Change is not a destination.
98-02 (2200) Do not need the guide plates at they are self aligning.

Ok cool, I read one sight that said that the guide plates were necessary, so I figured I would ask what I have to do. So basically just replace the factory rocker arms with the rollers, nothing special needed?

Make sure you get self-aligning rockers. If not, you WILL need guideplates. The cheap Comps are NOT self-aligning...

Yup, I already knew about your spacer, and I was planning on getting one of those. What brands of roller rockers are self aligning then? And I should add, which ones would you suggest? I'm not buying any rockers until I know for sure that I've got a darn good set.

Guide plates won't fit the 2200s. There are many manufacturers that make the self-aligning rocker arms. Check out retailers such as Summit Racing and Jeg's. Look for '87 and later Small Block Chevrolet (narrow body, self-aligning) roller rocker arms. You will also need the rocker arm studs from the 8.1L Big Block Chevy, 8mm base with the 3/8" tops.
Read 2.2/2200 OHV Rocker Arm List for more information on the rocker arm conversion.
I believe a lot of people are using these!
Summit Racing Part Number: PRO-66915P
The specs you need are:
1.6 Ratio
3/8 Stud
Narrow Body
Self Aligning
Roller Tip
Anything that has all of those, should work for your application!
Awesome you guys, thanks for the input. I take it I can also buy the 8.1l rocker arm studs from summit or jegs as well right?

NO .....
You need a stud that is M8 x 1.25 on the bottom to fit into the head.
And the top depends on the rocker and the lock nuts depend on the stud.
So you need to figure out what roller rocker you def. want then buy the extras around those specs.
I used extended studs because of my build with the LS1 and SBC parts, but this might confuse you so disreguard it!
sorry lol
lol I will disregard that...I'm just not used to doing overly custom work on engines, I've gotten used to just doing basically o.e.m. replacement work. I figured I would be going with the 1.6 proform roller rockers that have these specs:
1.6 Ratio
3/8 Stud
Narrow Body
Self Aligning
Roller Tip
Past that, I don't know what studs to use still

You need ARP 134-7201, as posted in MadJack's list.
Both the rockers and studs will come in a set of 16, so find someone to share with

Although, I might actually have a set of 8 of both if you're interested. I'd have to check the garage to make sure...

If you do have a set of each, I would be very interested, I don't really want to hassle with trying to sell off half a set of rockers for a four cylinder. I can imagine it takes quite awhile

Would you want to do the hybrid lifter swap?
I have 8 Comp Cams SBC lifters from my set of 16 that I got.
hell I still got rocker studs new in packaging from when I started parts for my 2200 build, I'll sell em cheap.
Hell, how about this, whoever has ANY parts to the rocker arm conversion, just PM me with what you have and how much you want to get. I wouldn't mind having the full conversion with proform rockers, arp studs and comp cams lifters
Oh, and JUCNBST, I might also need a set of new bolts to install my Koni Yellows in a few weeks

my studs are from crane cams, and I responded to your pm
anybody still has the RR's? how much if so?

is it pro-66915p or Pro 66915C
If anyone ends up with an extra set of 8 studs, I would be interested. Also, same with rockers. If someone has a half set of new 1.6 or 1.65 ratio rockers I would be interested.

If you do not want to grind in the cover, I would suggest having Phil making you a spacer...

Ok. How do you go about turning the cam so the lifters are in the right position during removal and installation?
