auto tranny mount install

i know this doesn't belong here but more people visit this forum than the transmission forum so chances are i'll get help here quicker.

i have the ttr auto transmission mount, i have the old mount out, i can't get the new mount in. i cannot for the life of me figure out why the mount won't slide in. it's almost like it doesn't fit but the dimensions are about the same as the stock mount. somebody help me out.

please, and thank you.

did it not come with instructions?

either way... a big pry bar never hurts. (much)

yup came with instructions. "insert new mount" lolz. doesn't help in the least. the space between the wheel well and tranny is freaking tight. i really should've inlisted help on this one cuz yeah i think a large pry bar to move the tranny over would actually do the trick.

honestly the mount design itself isn't helping matters. it's a completely different shape than the stock mount. wtf were we thinking there boys? i can get the stock mount back in and out in under a minute. yet i've spent two hours @!#$ around with this new mount just trying to fit it in, garfing up the coating the entire time.

so please, i know i'm not going to get immediate responses but if anyone's got any idea's i'm all ears at this point.

pics might help, and id also like to know any problems people have had installing it too, im trying to convince my buddy to get one

i used a 2x4 between a jack and the engine and raised it a little side in with a little wiggling. i think the old mount was worn a bit, and was slightly sagging when it was removed. like this only not as extreme / \

.

yeah i have the new mount in, but as i said the space between the frame and tranny is @!#$ tight. i'm basically beating it into place. installation going on 3+ hours at this point.

now mind you, i am slightly retarted, but i am mechanically inclined, i'm blaming this on the design of the mount. as i said, it's completely different than the stock mount. maybe that's good maybe it's not, but i can tell you that installation has been a @!#$ nightmare. and i'm not happy with this mount at all. the engine mounts, k brace etc. etc., i've gotten from ttr were smooth clean installs. this one........not so much.

got it. what a pain in the ass.

It is not easy to get in place, it is one of those things it has to be made in the shape it is... Many have instaled them, and it does take a bit of prying, but once it is in, it sits in exactly the stock location, and is much more rigid.

i guess i'll leave it at, i wish i would've gotten a friend to help me for a few minutes. i think with just a few minutes of help the install would've been cut in half at least.

Oh yeah, 1 person install would be hard, a 2nd person would help a ton!

yeah, a hammer is your friend on this deal if your'e doing it yourself. i think with another set of hands the tranny could've been pried over slightly so it wasn't such a tight squeeze, but on your own using a bfh is really the only way. oh well, it's done now. i was too exhausted last nite to even bother taking it out to find out what it did. lol

Did mine by myself took about 30 mins.

Granted I had the engine hoist and what not tho

noise from the engine bay is louder, shifts are firmer and faster (although this is probly due to the fact that the battery had to be removed for install, and i've heard resetting the battery will make the b+m feel like brand new again) other than that the car feels great. even though it's an auto tragic with engine/tranny mounts the car actually feels like it wants to get up and fly when you give it gas instead of feeling lethargic like it used to.

overall i'm pleased. just hated the @!#$ install.

If you think that is bad, try 5-speed tranny mounts. There is barely any access to the rear mount.

its an old concept. time for something new to take the reigns. - Z yaaaa

I found unbolting the parts bolted to the booster and moving them aside made the install a breeze. But it took me 3 sets to figure that out lol.

I've done a couple of the F23 mounts on two cars and did an Isuzu too with not too much difficulty.
You've got to support the engine to make it work but generally no major problems.
I'll say thing much though I had to cut the firewall side collar on both cars to make it fit since the Prothane collars are longer than stock keeping them from just sliding right in. I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem with the Prothane mounts but the rear mount by the firewall is a pain because of the longer collar.

I've never done the autotragic mount and an actually need to do mine but with a 5 speed swap looming in the distance, not worth it.

Good to see you got it done Blu.
