Has anyone seen a Cavalier with a 4g63 or 4g64 motor in it? There is a ton of Talons and Eclipses that are getting parted out around here and I could get my hands on one prety easily.
it has been done

So if I want to do a swap just an eco than?

That sounds like a much better idea.
This is becoming too common of a thread topic....
Currently #4 in Ecotec Forced Induction horsepower ratings. 505.8 WHP 414WTQ!!!
Currently 3rd quickest Ecotec on the .org - 10.949 @ 131.50 MPH!!!

not in your 1997 you don't... unless you want to rewire your whole car... and i mean back to the damn tail lights

Do a 2.4 if your car is a 97....
The eco swap into anything below a 2000 is such a hassle. You have to strip it down to a shell and put all the 2k up parts in it....wire harnesses, fuel tank, fuel lines, move the trans mounts. I did it and regretted it in the end.
I did it, thought it was fun.
I've got to say. I'm impressed. This time one of these threads hasn't been posted for at least 2 weeks.
i find it amusing that SHOoff has nothing better to do but follow me around & be an unhelpful dick in even cross-forum. - Jon Mick
Can we please get a sticky!
So you want to swap a non-GM engine into a J-body.

not only is it a hassle. you gain nothing by swapping an eco over the 2.4 ... unless you are looking at beating the max horsepower record, you can build either motor to make the same power, the cost to build either are about the same, and the reliability of the motors are about the same (assuming they are maintained)

What if I was to keep my 2.2? Any thoughts on building that?

The difference comes down the engine weight and the handling effects because of it. And whether or not you're even building the rest of the car far enough to even notice that.

Search man, Search.
Everything you could ever possibly wanna know about your car is on this website. If you can imagine it, its been done or attempted.
If you want power out of your 2.2, you'll want to go turbo. You can get power numbers from the LN2 all motor, but its a lot of work for what a swap would get you almost out of the box.

Heres the sticky per the usual trend:
1.) Get parts car
2.) Rape parts car of everything.
3.) Rape Cavalier of all drivetrain parts etc.
4.) Place parts car parts into Cavalier. The trunk works best. It has the most space
5.) Brag
6.) Disappear and never complete

50 lbs is negligible. but yeah 99.99999 % of motor builds done by members here won't eclipse the differences between the motors
also: all the motors built for this particular forum (N/A Performance) will not eclipse the difference. Without any form of boost. Neither motor will out do the other.

If I decided to swap or not I will eventually be turboing. I would rather have a 5 speed though so I'm looking for one while I start getting parts.
you may want to figure that out after you make your decision...
the 2.2 OHV transmission shares bellhousings with the 60degreeV6 motors (such as the 3100 or 3400)
the Ld9 Transmission (96-99) will bolt right in to your car, but only mates with Quad4 family engines
the LD9 Transmission (00-02) will not bolt in to your car without rewelding brackets, and only mates with Quad4 Family Engines
the Eco Transmission will not bolt in to your car without rewelding brackets, and only mates with Eco Family engines.

2.2 OHV also mates with the 90 degree V6s such as the 3800. You just need a slightly machined down flywheel.
