PENSACOLA ECOTEC SWAP!!
Tuesday, June 05, 2007 2:30 PM
I found a low mileage 03-05 cavalier that was totaled by being hit in the side... engine, tranny, wiring harness, ect... everything is in tact.... Just needs a new home... it's located here in Pensacola and they want $1000 for the whole front end... from the windshielf forward.... Just thought I'd put it out there for you people looking to upgrade... it's located on Fairfield Dr. It's called "KIKERS U-PULL IT" salvage yard....

I don't want people to miss out on this... take advantage NOW... I would but low on cash and a place to do the swap... hopefully someone else can grab it up!

You'll need more than whats in front of the windshield. You'll need the harness clear back to the taillights, the gauge cluster, the dashboard ('cause the cluster wont fit into the '95-'99 gauge bezel), the BCM (bolted to the sidewall under the dash), and various other bits and pieces. Its a true pain in the ass, especially if you're swappin the stuff into a pre-2000. You'll need to weld the rear tranny mount about 4 inches back toward the firewall. Its not a weekend project by any stretch. But a $1000 is a good ass deal if its got everything. My donor car cost $800, but the douche I bought it from broke or lost quite a few key parts... mainly, he fried the PCM and I'm still tryin to get that straitened out. I just wanna help out anyone considering this swap.

Wow, this would be sweet for a new project I've been kicking around in my head. But unfortunately, I've got too much tied up in the Honda right now to start any new jobs.

The only way I'd do it again is if I had 2 options:

1. I bought a '95 Cavi base model for next to nothing, and just paid someone else to get the swap done. I figure that these cars came with nothing to them, so it'd be no big deal to buy the car, since you gotta fill it with the ECO stuff anyway.

2. I got a 2000 Chevy Metro and swapped it in there. That lil 3dr pocket rocket

I was thinking something similar, except with an old MGB GT coupe.

I think the Metro would have more of a sleeper feel to it. Whats better, is that Extreme Dimensions makes a Blitz kit for the '00+ Chevy Metro / Suzuki Swift. I'd throw on the kit, paint it like an Indigo Candy Blue, slam it to the earth on some 18s.. everyone would think its some riced-out POS. But then you pop the hood to reveal a turbo'ed ECOtec That is something I'm seriously considering doing.. should anything ever happen to my Stacy baby, God forbid ::does finger cross::

Haha, that would be pretty sweet to see.

You really think it's possible to shoehorn into that tiny engine bay without "massaging" the firewall a bit? Or maybe you could do a mid or rear-mount a la Festiva Shogun.

I know that MR cars have a better weigh bias, but I've never been big on those style cars. I like the Toyota MR2, Porsche Carrera, and even the later model Pontiac Fiero Formula.. I'd never buy one, tho. And as far as makin it into the engine bay, I'm not too sure. The guy who helped me get my ECO swap done is an a/c tech, and is always on the road. He was in Orlando, and pulled up along side a Metro that was sittin on some 19s.. they got to talkin and ended up pullin over in a parking lot. The guy popped the hood to reveal his ECOtec. I thought I was the only one who had the idea, but apparently not Sadly, he was runnin late and never got the details on the swap

Wow, well at least you know it fits then.

So, I tell you what. You buy the motor and the car, and I'll bring the beer, and we can crank that puppy out in a weekend. Hahahaha
