I have found away from my insurance to pay for a right hand drive conversion for my car, seeing is how I'm blind in my left eye. But my question is how many people would make fun of me for having a right hand drive domestic.
I'm laughing because you probably think that you'd be the first person to do this, and because you seem to think it's easy to do.

well if the insurance will pay for the "whole" thing then great, if not it's gonna be pricey, labor intensive and time consuming...
good luck with what ever you do...

umm no sweetheart. I don't care if its easy or not cause my insurance would pay for a shop to do it. I wouldn't do it. And I know I'm not the first person to do this but I have never seen a right hand drive fire. Have you??
Please don't call me sweetheart.
Good luck getting your insurance to pay for it. It is not expensive nor is it easy. Labor cost alone will be in the thousands. There was someone on here working on a RH conversion and he was 2 years into it and never finished.

would be one of those universal kits like people use to rig vehicles to deliver the mail. they def arent gonna fund an OEM thing like a toyota cav interior.

Yes he has spoken to them and I just need to fill out some paper work and see if they will pay for it. My agent said that there is a good possiblity.

Nice site Heated. I like some of the stuff you got on there but alas I am to poor, which is why I am resorting to my insurance for crap lol.
Couple of things to think about.
1. Is the car manual or automatic? If it's manual, driving a RHD vehicle can take a little getting used to. If you are blind in your left eye, you will have to constantly turn your head while you get accustomed to shifting with your left hand.
2. Do you drive toll roads ever? If you don't have one of those automated toll things (ie. SunPass, E-Pass), you may have a tough time paying tolls.
3. Like drive-thru fast food? Unless it's Checkers, you're gonna need a passenger.
4. The insurance company, to save themselves money, will likely take your car to the shop that will cost them the least amount of money. Do you necessarily feel safe with driving the end result of the lowest bidder?
5. The car will likely have quite a lengthy down time. Do you have another way to get around in the mean time?
Please don't misunderstand me. It's not that I'm trying to tell you that you shouldn't have this done (especially if it's at the cost of someone else). I just want to make sure you've considered all the possible consequences that come as a result of such a project.

Every point Scott made was spot-on. In fact, if I remember correctly, you cant have a manual shift RHD jbody 'cause where the pedal would be, the floorboard is too high and gets in the way of fully disengaging the clutch. Not to mention its a REALLY lengthy process. I looked into it myself, and in the end, I'd rather just pay Blue to have one imported over.. if he would do that. But as far as tacky, hell no. I think it'd be rockin

Scott your cool thanks for the advice with out any insults. You brought up some good points and my car is an automatic. I hate fast food (although the new buffalo chicken sandwich is banging) and there are no toll roads that I need to take. I do not need a car because I live on my college campus and the only reason I would need a car is because of boredom. The fact is that I am not sure if I would feel comfortable about having my car converted with a low budget mechanic. I guess if they will write me a check then I will get the rest of the money to import a car (carontrack.com is a dop site)
Well, if you've considered all the angles, and you still want to have it done...then by all means go ahead and do it.
Anytime you ask for advice on any forum, you're going to get a variety of opinions and insights. The most important thing for you to remember is that YOU need to be happy with the outcome. So, if you think having a RHD Sunfire is a project worth undertaking, then go for it. Anything can be done with enough time and money. And since it seems you've got the money thing just about squared away, you'll just have to be patient and make sure everything is done as professionally and safely as possible.

Jason Horning - i'm lost your saying your poor but you want to do a RHD sunfire? its going to take money and good labor work to pull it off. Also your going to have to get a firewall to do a RHD and you'll end up coming here due to that we are so far the only ones that have them. Maybe you should call us or email us,

I'd be pretty cool, like said above I'd just worry about the quality of work, try to get a mechanic that has done these kind of things before..
