Wanky Handbrake

its starting to bother me.

i have a 2000 z24, and the handbrake is almost worthless. i can pull it up all the way, and the car still rolls (slightly). my friend has one with an auto and im wondering if maybe i swap in a cable from one with and auto it will be tight like his (on his you barely have to pull it up to get it to work)

so what im asking is 3 things

1; is this problem common?
2: will a cable from any year work?
3: any advice, hints, tips, comments questions or compliments? i take them all

Get all the parts you need in a pile, and drive the car into it.
They will find their way into the correct places.

i had that problem, went to change out the rear drums and adjusted them... and everything was all better... so, maybe it's time for some new shoes???? or maybe my scenario was different... anyway best of luck fixing it... i know it's a pain to have a useless e-brake... my friend had an old subaru wagon and we would be on the freeway... and to freak people out he said "i'm gonna rip the e-brake!!!!" and then he did and nothing happened... and we laughed at how scared the other people in the car looked(didn't know about the joke).... anyways good luck with it...

Swapping cables won't make a difference. Rear shoes are out of adjustment. Have that taken care of and it should solve your problem.
