Now that someone has proven that you can stick a Cadillac Northstar in a J-body, I was thinking... how about the 5.3 liter LS4 V8? It's made to be in FWD cars and all you really need is to be able to fit the thing under the hood.
I think it's possible. People used to tell me that the Northstar install was impossible and I argued them, now I'm arguing this. Mark my words, someone's gonna make an LS powered FWD Cav or Sunfire one day.
id love to see it... i bet your right... someones gunna do it
ive thought about this since i first saw that engine. it would be pure sex
edit: this is post 666 for the month

Quoted for the truth. Talking doesn't make it happen. The only way i know how to lay this out is- If you have to ask you likely won't be doing it. There is a lot of problem solving that needs to be done that noone else can do for you since, well, noone else has any experience with the swap.

Now with northstar V8, IRS, 20's n 22's
i wanna see that northstar run before i go sticking a V8 into a j body

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
Where is the thread on the V8 in a J?

Would you be better of attempting to do this to a 2nd gen that came with a 3.1 V6 or to a 3rd gen? Kinda wondering wich would be easier.

I think the engine bays are exactly the same no matter what the generation... I think?
There is a downside to this. Personally, I think a Turbo Ecotec J would probably beat it an LS powered J in a drag race and the car would be garbage when it came to handling. Too much weight over the front wheels and FWD is pretty much limited to 400hp no matter what you're running. Anything over that and the torque steer will toss you into the nearest ditch. A car with a lot of torque (Like a V8) would be even worse.
But still... come on, wouldn't it be flippin AWESOME? Just to hear the sound coming out of it and see people's expressions. It'd be better at show than go, but what a show it would make.

x2
Relax people

As far as the engine goes, the major battles are done, but there are many other parts of the car being taken care of before i worry about starting the engine.

Bump to an old thread.
Anyone put one in yet? I'm getting bored of the L67.. need ideas. AWD from an Equinox would be fun, but too much work to shorten all the axles..

4G63 swap?
haha, sorry... I couldn't resist.
Seriously though, anyone done anything with the new 3.6L yet? I haven't been on 60degreev6 for a while to see if anyone there has played with it much.
i find it amusing that SHOoff has nothing better to do but follow me around & be an unhelpful dick in even cross-forum. - Jon Mick
this is funny, i was just reading up on this last night lol

I've kind of wanted to scrap my 3400 and try this, with the advent of the MS3X being able to control the VVT on these. It should mate to the F40 transmission from the 9-3 Aero, because it's just the big brother to the 2.8 in those.
Doesn't that 2.8 come Turbo also? That could be fun.

^ this. Insert evil grin.

Yes, and 300 ponies. Very nice engine. But if you can make 300 on the 2.8, you can make more on the 3.6 without losing any driveability.
Hmm... There's a rumor that the ATS-V is supposed to come with a twin turbo 3.0 putting out somewhere in the ballpark of 380. Sounds like a new engine though, and being what it's in... probably pricey to get ahold of when it does come out.

Tue F40 is also in the G6's with the 3.9 VVT. I believe its the same 60 degree V6 bell housing pattern.
Currently #4 in Ecotec Forced Induction horsepower ratings. 505.8 WHP 414WTQ!!!
Currently 3rd quickest Ecotec on the .org - 10.949 @ 131.50 MPH!!!

Not quite the same. There are actually five versions of the F40. The bellhousing is just one of the differences (the 2.8 and 3.6 are not the same as the rest of the 60 degree V6 engines.

I once heard of a group supping up the 3800 V6 engine in a Bonneville and their Bonneville was the first front wheel drive car capable of 202.254mph thats insane for front wheel drive that would be fun
I would like to see someone put a 350 olds motor out of the Oldsmobile Toronato in one. That would be awesome. A carbureted 350 olds rocket in a sunfire
lol why? the stock engine probably had near the hp that old relic did.

I choose the technology built for land speed records... not the technology built to save on emissions and gas mileage.
