my 2.2 ohv cavalier motor is taking a dump and i really don't wanna get rid of this daily driver cavalier. is this swap possible ? or even worth it ? iam located right outside of philadelphia if any one close by wants to give a hand or make some $$ lol

To my knowledge, the only possible issue you're going to run into is having the flash that will run your transmission correctly. I'm not sure what 4 speed tranny came in the 96-98 Grand Ams and Malibus, but that might be the right ECM/harness setup for you. The engine will bolt right in to your tranny using the flywheel and torque converter you have, and you can use my mounts for a perfect fit (see GP forum). I'd help you if you were closer, but it's a bit far for me. LOL.

the 4t40 that is in cavaliers came in 96-98 grand ams and you would have to get the v6 pcm and get some custom motor mounts made but the best person ive talked to about this swap is SHoOFF try messaging him he is very knowledgeable with this swap having done it before i have this swap lined up for my cavalier and the directions for the v6 swap are posted at the top of this forum

I have no idea about how to do the 4T40E with the 3400. I do it real, and use the 5spd.

I thought this was the case, but I really haven't spend much time investigating the auto aspect of the V6 swap, because most of us prefer the 5-speed.

Umm...like these? As I said, keeping your existing tranny and using my mounts will work perfectly. If Erik is in fact correct on the 96-98 GA's using the 4t40e tranny, you want to use the ECM and wiring harness from one of those cars, and the computer will run your tranny fine. The Megasquirt is great if you're going 5-speed, but you still have to control your auto tranny. Sticking with the factory ECM and tuning it is the best option. Either way, you're still going to have to address the gauges, and the only way it's been done successfully so far is aftermarket, or piggybacking your factory ECM for the sensors to the gauge cluster.

I know my 97 grand am i owned before the 3100 grenaded had the 4t40 but some came with the 3t40 it depends on what you get from the junkyard look at the shifter if it goes 1,2, then D its a 3t40 if it goes 2,3 then D then its the 4T40 thats what i was told by my uncle who works for gm and the post about doing the swap makes it very simple, i will be doing the swap once it warms up in Michigan i have an unheaded garage thats my excuse to not tackling the swap lol

Well, if you're set on using automatic, then you'll wanna use HPTuners. Reason is that the stock PCM has a transmission controller built in (electronic transmission only shifts when the computer tells it, and shifts how it says). Megasquirt does not have a built in trans controller, you'll need something seperate.
