Hey guys, another question...
I picked up an Infinity Kappa Perfect 10" a few weeks back, and its been in the car for 2 weeks so far, and I've noticed it doesnt hit as loud as my old Reference 10". Now I realize they say theres a 3 week 'break-in' period, so I havent been pushing it, but I figure even after 2 weeks I figured it would have started to get a little louder. The sound is SO much nicer, but its really quiet, I've been needing to put the rear seat down all the time so I can even hear it while driving - my mirror doesnt even shake anymore hahaha....
Now I'm thinking its probably the box, because I built a new box to spec for the Perfect. It's a sealed, 0.6 cubic foot box, whereas the old box was a sealed Q-Logic 1.0 cubic foot box (it had a tube at the top so it could be ported if desired, but I left it sealed). The new one's made of 1" MDF, the Q-Logic was about 3/4" with some cheap wood it looks like.
Would the smaller box affect SPL? I'm not quite sure what way it works, I tested my old sub free-air and its a lot quieter, so I figure, the smaller the box the louder?
Anyways, if its not the box, and I'm still using the same amp (Rockford Fosgate Punch P2002 - birth sheet shows 268Wrms bridged), is it just that the sub isnt as loud?
Thanks.
The box would most definetely effect SPL. I've also noticed some subs simply need more power to hit the same SPL as others, especially higher end subs.

I would assume that the Perfect would handle much more power than the old Reference would have. Feed it the power they recommend and be sure the enclosure is built to the specs they give or you have calculated yourself, and it should be much better.
I have a 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1D and I have close to 400 watts going to it, and its got some punch to it. Granted my old subs were Solobaric L5's in a ported Box tuned to 28hz. Its not as loud, but thats what I wanted.
Amplified front Speakers + Nice SQ Woofer = Awesome Music!
Yeah I'm not saying it sounds bad or anything, but its sooooo quiet compared to the old one.
The box is 0.6cubic feet like I said, and thats Infinity's reccommended size...
As for a new amp, I just dont have the money to spend on another one =/
