Is it passible to swap a ecotec supercharged engine from a Cobalt SS into a 2004 Cavalier? Have a few been done before?
Thanks.
Thanks Guys. I'll search in the fi section

i have had the 2.0 in my car......turboed one. but then we took it out and parted it cause the head was @!#$
its possible
just put the cavy upper engine mount(aluminum piece that connects to the head.)
and
swap the oil pan out w/ one off a 2.2 eco.
then there ya go it fits in

Do you have a 2004 Cavalier?

When did they tell you this? Because the GM dealerships here in central FL, say it's still not available. Not to mention GM performance parts division still tells me there is not an availability date yet, and have no idea when there will be one. That was yesterday they told me this when I called them.

after youve spent that amount and you realize you dont have forged rods (dont expect eagles though) and crank and oil squirters and intercooler you will slap yourself. also to add i bet this swap minus your tuning options will cost $1200 MAX. plus im assuming if you swap mounting stuff and oil pan, a delta body will then be able to use your 2.2 ecotec engine further decreasing the cost. which idea sounds better now?
also snows what did you use to tune it when you had it? this is another example where HPT will own for you eco guys btw..

Sven you totally quarterloafed your computer..
its a 1996.............same god damn
thing
Well, he was asking if a few of the Cobalt SS engines have ever been swapped into a 2004 Cavalier before. I was just answering his question......

the 2.0 s/c motor in the cobalt is the same motor that is in the 04 cavi. the only difference is that the 2.0 was destroked and modified to be able to handle the added power from the s/c. from my research there should be no problem in swapping motors.
I'm pretty sure -it can be done.
But here's a question - why would want to?
GMPP makes a supercharger for the 2.2L Ecotec - it gives about the same HP & Torque ratings. and you can change the stock pulley to give higher boost if needed. And possible even save some money.

I'm going to call BS on that one since I've already tried doing this swap. I already had the engine when I bought my S/C setup. Everything will swap, yes... however what did you use to control the engine? Certainly not the factory electronics. There is also more to this than just the oil pan and upper engine mount. You have to trim and fit your IDI cover to fit into the trim for the coblat because it
uses 4 individual coilpacks. Another item is the oil cooler would have to be blocked off, there is not enough room in our engine bay (
without add'l modification) to utilize it.
If you search for this you will find my attempt in the photos section on the org from sometime last summer. The crank on the 2.2 motor has 7 marks for timing pickup, the 2.0 motor has approx 100. This would not run on the stock computer/electronics. Of course people were saying I've seen it done, or I know someone who did it so this will be great!!! Blah blah, when I proved otherwise no one could be found.
That last profile that someone linked us to, I beleive... right in his profile he lists: SDS EFI complete Standalone management system
Which would be one way around the timing issue. So if someone isn't using a standalone or swapped every electronic option (including the drive-by-wire throttle body) from a cobalt/ion then they are just full of BS.

I did have a the saab 2.0 Turbo engine in my car, but it never ran. It was physically mounted in the car, it was never fired due to removing the valve over and finding all the intake valves were bent and the head was cracked.
so when i did post it did fit, just not fired.

^^^ See, and thats where you were incorrect to sell someone that its possible, and fits... Because by saying that, people assume you mean that it WORKS... FITTING and RUNNING are two VERY different things, and both are EQUALLY important to someone doing a motor swap.

Jon, I don't think you read the profile closely enough.
People, YES the engine bolts up no problem. However, due to the crank timing marks being different, the stock ecu will NOT fire the engine.
If you read the guy's profile that completed the swap, you will notice he's using a SDS engine management system to power it.
