Ok guys here we go. I just recently finished the rebuild on my motor, and yes you can use a 96 head on a 98 block with no problems. My problem is, the clutch keeps sticking down and after bleeding it we figured it might be the slave cylinder, but we want to diagnose the problem before buying the $117 part. You can pump the clutch all day with the car off and it never sticks. You can crank the car and pump the clutch, again no sticking. It is not until you shift through a few gears that the clutch decides to stick down. The thing is, the pedal is down but the clutch is engaged. Also the clutch fluid is running out of the bell housing, which I know it should never be. The only thing we could think is that the slave cylinder is leaking and running into the housing. Just wondering if you guys could help me diagnose this before we buy the part. We are pulling the tranny later today. Thanks for any help, you guys always steer me in the right direction.

bleed it again. make sure when you bleed it that you keep the master reservoir full. pull your starter and look for fluid. if its damp in there, slave is toast. honestly, from now on if i EVER have to pull my engine, i'm replacing the clutch, slave and rear main. too much of a pain in the ass to have to do if something goes wrong.

Yeah...if you are leaking fluid from the trans it is the slave and all the bleeding in the world isn't going to fix it. The fluid is leaking from a blown seal...not something that will just go away with bleeding or pumping the pedal. Replace it and let us know if you have any further issues. Thanks!
