Well I have been wanting to test drive a Solstice for some time, but i knew realisticly I doubt any dealership would let me take one out with out being 95% sure i was going to buy it, which is fine and i dont blame them.
So today when I got to school, I noticed a brand new black Solstice that GM had donated to my college sitting right near my tool box. I knew my teacher probably wouldnt let me do anything other than move it more than 5 feet so I could get to my tools, but I was surprised. He gave me the keys and said park it outside.

Doing my best to hide my grin I hopped in and drove out. Of course I drove it around for a while.
Performance and handling: I drove it around the parking lot for a while and took it through first, second and third gear. It handled very well as I weaved around the empty parking lot. It was quick but nothing spectacular. Most I really got was a second gear chirp. Fun car but definetly needs a bit more power, and im sure its alot more fun on the twistys than the straights.
Looks and what not: This car does look a lot better in person than online or any magazine. Still not a fan of the front end, but its growing on me. The interior was put together very well, and brought back no memories of my sunfire or any other previous GM car for the most part (which isnt a bad thing at all). With the top up, it was kinda claustraphobic, but wasnt really cramped. Felt maybe a little smaller than an S2000. I dont think a lunch box would fit in the trunk....top up or down.
Id give it a 7.0 out of 10 if i had to rate it. I liked it a lot!! A bit more power would have made it an absolute blast.
Just figured Id give my opinion on it since its pretty new and not many people have been able to drive one yet. Except for ESB lol.

Thats why i can't wait fo the turbo version.
I was suprised when I first saw both the solstice and sky on the road how much better they looked up close then I thought from picts. The lines are just perfect.
yeah the ride alot better than anything ive been in lately
the biggest reason for the lack of power feel is the drive by wire
ill wait for the sky redline , then drool like a helpless child
LOL
I really want to see a sky!! I think they look a lot better, which is odd coming from saturn lol.
I dont think it was the drive by wire. Ive driven a few cars with drive by wire, and this just felt a little under powered. The drive my wire usually gives a delay from when you punch the throttle to when the car goes.

Oh and as of thus far, burn outs havent really been something the solstice it willing to do. The tires in the back are pretty damn wide so i kinda expected that. Still fun though!
