It's Official: Toyota announces xB, xA phase out date

Toyota has announced that production of its 2006 Scion xA and xB will end in December, and that the two economy cars that kicked things off for Scion will be replaced next spring by two all-new models wearing 2008 badges. That means technically speaking Scion will have but a single car available for model year 2007, the tC coupe.
Scion's vice president Mark Templin gave no other information regarding the upcoming replacements, except their estimated time of arrival. The success of the Scion brand can be largely attributed to the splash made by the xA and xB when they hit U.S. shores in June of 2004. Since then Scion has sold 72,011 units of the xA and 139,091 units of the boxy xB.
So, still no word on what the replacements will be but the speculation as to the release time frame is over.

they said when they started the brand that scions would have a short lifespan, and to keep the brand fresh they'd bring in something new/phase out the old every couple of years.

you know, i love when people like to criticize others about their behavior,
but turn around and do the same freaking thing months later...
So what about the tC? The tC has been around NATIONALLY just as long as the xB and xA. True, the xB and xA were out in select areas before the tC, but not nationally. They should technically be axeing the tC also right now, or at least in one more year.......

The tC was not released until 2005. The xA and xB had 2004 models. Initially, everything was planned to go on 3 year lifespans, however there are rumor that the tC may go longer as the demand for these cars is enormous.
In addition to above (and what GM Goodwrench posted), there are rumors of the replatement "xA" to be based off of the Toyota Matrix.
I supposed we'll find out what they are up to soon.

The Xa isn't all that bad. The Xb is a driving toaster oven on wheels . . . So they replace it with another toaster oven on wheels, and a generic looking Cadillac, lol
I'm glad they are keeping the Tc though. That is the best thing to come out of Scion.
i dont know why... but when i first saw the xb... i loved it... and i still dont know why i do... i will miss it... i still want one though...

I didn't feel that way until after I got my tC. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have the tC, but I really like the xB. I test drove one not too long ago while at the Dealership, and it's a very nice ride. It's not powerful at all, but it's roomy as hell and comfortable. The only complaint I really had was the speedo.
My fiance's mom got an xA about a month ago and I gotta say, it's grown on me. I rode in the back of it one time and it was suprisingly comfortable and had some pep to it for having 3 people in it and merging up to highway speeds.

hit it on the head...i didnt like the xb tell i rode in it...almost bought a release series one (kinda wish i did somtimes)

so they're replacing 2 ugly cars with 2 uglier cars.. Yeah, I guess that makes sense..

so what if the xA and xB are roomy inside... look at the outside! UGLY! I'd drive a minivan, which is far roomier (if I needed that feature) before I put my butt in those sad excuses for cars...
the replacements... a more aerodynamic toaster and something that looks like a mini-300M/Caddy

i have yet to even the littlest bit like any of the cars they make. I duno maybe it's just me, there all just horribly ugly
Maybe they'll make the replacements conform to Canadian crash laws too?

Their design is so so weird. But cool....
the tC is the only halfway decent car they make. the rest is pure garbage. i have never liked the xA or the xB, and never will. and if those concept cars are any indication of the direction Scion is going... im sorry for them.

I thought that way too. I overall hated the damn car.
However, now that my g/f has one, I cannot talk any more crap about it. It is EXTREMELY ROOMY... And I mean EXTREMELY! It gets up and goes pretty good for such a low displaced, low HP engine. It has alot of features, plenty of aftermarket stuff for it, the fit and finish is extraordinary, and it was almost dirt cheap.
Don't knock it until you've tried it bud.
