It's been a while since i posted here. I've been busy getting married and getting into Dental School. I have moved on since i sold the Sunfire, then i got a Saturn SC and had big plans for an ECO swap, but by the time i had enough money saved up i decided i didn't like FWD, and that i could get more performance and have something that i wouldn't lose a lot of money on, if i had to sell it.
So here is my new ride:
1989 Nissan 180SX
48,720 kilometers
-Air Conditioning
-Power Steering
-Power Windows
-Sunroof
-Rear Spoiler
-CA18DET: 1800cc, DOHC 16V, Turbo
-FR: Front Engine, Rear Wheel Drive
-5 Speed Manual Transmission
All i can say is i can't wait.
It looks amazing, which makes me belive the 48,000kms = 30,000miles
is accurate.
Piggy with a lip, baby!
Clean bay.
imacculate interior.
I don't even see any seat rub. Do you?
and the *** shot.
It has landed and passed through customs and is on a train to me now.

uh.... all I can say is wow. That thing is awesome. I'm not typicall "oh yeah jdm d00d!!!" but that car is in such nice shape for it's age... it doesn't matter what country it's from. It's sweet. That FD rx-7 in the back of the first photo is nice too. It's crazy how little wear there is anywhere on that car. I'm jealous, I love the style 80's cars had and I wish I could find a reliable one within my budget. There are some nice FC rx-7s and aw11 mr-2s around here but all beat up and rusted out... Good luck with that beauty!
Only thing you need to remember now is that you signal with your RIGHT HAND...
What am I talking about... you Quebecois never signal anyhow...

JK!!!

the signaling will be weird. Does it look like my signal switch is crushed to anyone else?

i wouldn't drive one of those if someone payed me too, around here every second drifter wanna be idiot has imported a rhd pos and thinks they are king of the road drift machineeeeeeeee!!!1111 its pathetic what the "car scene" has become, its actualy more uncommon to see a lhd 240 or 300 around here, not too mention all the idiots with there 16sec skylines that think they are the @!#$ and try to race everyone because skylines are the fastest car ever made.... haha ya right
i would rather drive a jbody than one of them, and that says alot cause i said i never wanted to drive another jbody as long as i live lol
I used to have an 84 nissan 200sx. Not really the same thing but I really miss the car.
I had the talking ECU option.
I kept the car clean. repainted it its factory color. Factory ride height. I loved it. I wished it had the cheesy digital tach and display though..
I honestly had something for that car. by the time it was in its accident, I was doing my research on swapping engines, The Stock engine I think made what.... 10 horsepower or something? the ca20E engine it had was beat to hell.. what can I say?
Either way, I had some little plans for that car and Well when it got destroyed I got the J.
Someday I'll get another 200sx though. someday
Either way nice find! hope you take care of her

LOL... OOPS!!! I thought you were someone else... I was JK anyhow

I'm not going to import just yet, mainly because I'm betting the new GTO or Camaro will street legal here, and I want a muscle car. I'm also needing something that's liveable so I'm looking @ a G35 Sedan, or a Jaguar X-type possibly an S-type. The only thing I'd to the car if you want to make it your daily driver is get it rustproofed and undercoated. IF you go withe suspension mods and what-not, just keep the undercarriage is clean, and make sure to clean under the door sills and fenderwells... they hold crap in there. Trust me, my GF's 240 (same body obviously) rusted right out because she didn't keep things clean.
SlowZ24:
Luc never said anything about Drifting, and the CA18DET is a lot more capable a motor out of the box than the K24DE/KA24DE (Which is a truck motor if anyone was keeping score), the balance is damned near 50/50, and it's probably as cheap as any other 240 you'll find, and because maintenance laws in Japan are the norm (depending on the prefecture, you need to cert the car yearly and rust is a cardinal sin), AND it has low mileage, why would he buy a rusted out piece of sh*t that's been beat on locally? Shipping and importation charges for that car is about $1000 total... 240's with that kind of mileage are virtually unheard of.

Beautiful.
Dont listen to the JDM Haters.
GAM: the cost of the car was less than most 240 parts cars are sold for, but the shipping is a lot more than $1000, like x4 or x5.
Regardless, i would never find a 240 in that kind of condition here, and even if i could, you are absolutly right, it would not have the potential of a CA18DET, upgade the turbo and do some tuning and you have a 13 second car that is god on gas.
slowZ24: i feel a comment that displays such ignorance should AT LEAST be prefaced by "IMHO".
This car has HICAS four wheel steering, it won't be a drifter. I'm not saying it will never get sideways, but that will not be it's primary function. It will be a daily driver. I will mod it, in fact i have started already and it's not even here yet. I've got Silkroad coilovers and 18inch Volk TE37's waiting for it. I want it to be respectablly quick (13's), handle well, and have a clean 80's retro look.
www.drluc.ca
Awww geez!!! No more Saturn / Quad-4 project?

Oh well, sweet pick up! I hear ya on that 80's retro theme. That car is gonna be fun.
RHD is awesome in my book. Now you can work for the postal service too!

Enjoy it bro!

-----The orginal Mr.Goodwrench on the JBO since 11/99-----

the car doesnt even look like its ever been driven on the inside
ridiculous condition for a car from 1989
what did the total cost come to? howd you even find it to ship? registered? smog?
details on it.
looks like its well taken care of.

I'm moving to Canada..........................
That car is beautiful man, so much potential
Luc: I meant shipping from Japan. If you're paying more, I'm going to bet that there are Importer's fees and/or markups... Who is doing the importation?

G-Dub: that quad 4 Saturn project only existed in YOUR mind. The Ecotec saturn project, on the other hand, was very near fruition; i had the money, the car and the shop that would do it. In the end i decided against it because i would be left with a worthless car that i had dumped a lot of money into, plus it would be NA and FWD, and it just didn't seem like a good idea. Then again a lot of people are saying that getting a RHD, 17 year old car from the other side of the world is not a good idea either. I guess only time will tell if this is a good or bad decision. I bought this car having never seen a photo and went only on the auction sheet. I was very happy when i saw these pics for the 1st time.
John H: I don't know the total yet, because it hasn't gotten to me yet (still on the train 'til next week). There is no smog here, and it was brought in under the 15 yr rule so it is basically exempt from most of those restrictions. It is just like the classic cars, it only needs to be saftied and insured. Shipping takes about 2 months, sometimes 3 if the time of the year is right.
GAM: yeah shipping from JP to vancouver is about a grand, the importer charges $800-1200 for their fee, and the duty on the car is 21% (to the best of my knowledge) then shipping to me all the way on the east coast is an extra $1500.
I went throught importconcern.ca. If anyone is interested talk to Dominick, he will get you started, and don't forget to tell him i sent you.
www.drluc.ca
I would have piled onto a cramped flight and driven it back on a moving permit.
The duties are 21%? Does the car have AC? Or is that Duties and admin fees? I had thought it was 17%... maybe there's duty and GST?
Anyhow... good lookin' out.
