LS1 Info
Tuesday, February 13, 2007 12:16 PM
Last year about this time i decided to sell the cav and get a new car, i kinda jumped the gun alittle bit when i found my now current stealth. I should've stuck to what i really wanted, an LS1 maro or T/A. Now my stealth is starting to have some reliability issues and now I'd like to get myself into a 98-99 V8 M6 T/A. Being that i am a college student i still need my parents insurance rates and them to cosign on a loan. I personally know the cars are rather reliable and i know they are better on gas than my Twin Turbo stealth is, but i need to know where i can find good ligit info that states this. Because they seem to think that they are very unreliable cars and are getting 7-8mpg. Anyone that can point me to where i can find the info would be great.

average milage on a 6spd is 12-20 around town , and 20-30 highway

having a few mods helps as well as a good tune done to the pcm

They still have their info up on the pontiac site. May be LS2 mpg figures but your parents will get the idea.

LS1s can take A LOT of milage ... but of course, it also depends on how they were maintained.

200K+ is not uncommon ... while still putting down over 300rwhp on a stock engine.

Im not sure youll see many, if any at all, get close the 30MPG mark on the highway. Ive had a few friends with T/As and even when driving 65 and just cruising....30MPG never came close.

I know my goat has never gotten more than 24. And thats also taking it easy with the go fast pedal.

MY dad just picked up an 02 bone stock except for the skip shift, 50K miles for 12,100. M6 Pewter T-Tops. They are out there and LS1 is your best site to look at.

As far as the 3 posted. I love the hugger orange but not the auto
113K miles on the black one, not bad but you can find lower for cheaper.
Now the red one, this would be my choice. looks great, nice and clean and 13,500 for 6K miles. NICE MANY mods, custom carbon fiber, interrior and performance.all the audio goodies are nice, and its pre sound deadend, thats a huge plus.

its a little more than your looking to spend but no matter what, LS1

Thanks for all the help guys, it looks like i am def gonna be getting into a 98+ now, I ned to find someone/someplace that will take the stealth as a trade or trade in because i don't want to try and sell it myself, would take to long and it has some problems that i wouldn't want to have to deal with after its gone. I love the ones you posted, especially the red one. I kinda want a bird though, I like the way they look so much more. it would be so awsome if i could find a black, blue, or red bird around here.

My LS1 vette gets avg 19 in town and avg 28 on the highway. Just for grins, I also got 9.8 mpg on a day when I ran the 1/4 mile 31 times in about 5 hours. I reset the dash when I started my first run, and before I left the track, it said avg 9.8. I have gotten as well as 32-33mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 72 mph. F-body will get about 2-4mpg less because of weight. My car is a 6speed with a stock 3.42, just like the F-body has. As far as reliability, shoot for a newer LS1. They have more LS6 style parts in them which makes them a little stronger. My car has almost 90k on it now and I have done nothing but oil changes in it. I replaced my first clutch at 80k. Even if you do have to do work on the car, parts for those cars are easy to find and are very affordable. I have seen LS1 take out engines sell for around 600-900 dollars around here minus the intake and oil pan. Lots of people upgrading makes parts very available.
