Wow.
2006 Scion tC: 19 city, 27 highway.
I usually hit between 28-29 MPG on the highway. W00t for being on the downward slope of the bell curve!

2006 tC - Dust Covered, but driven more
They are still off by a ton
its saying for my car 20/28
Ive never ever gotten below 25 on a tank and thats racing and all city driving, highway im at 33.2 driving at 85+
if anything the older ratings for my car were closer

1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
Wow, the automatic (4 speed) version of the 2008 Scion tC gets better gas mileage than the manual (5 speed)? That's odd.
I get better mileage than what the EPA states for my vehicle. It shows 22 City, 28 Highway, however I usually get 29+ MPG (mixed city & highway) each time I fill up at the pump. I must drive like an old lady

My ass. 4 cyl, 2.2 L, Manual (5 Speed)
20 MPG City
28 MPG HWY
I get at worst
24 MPG City
31 MPG HWY
Best is 35.4 MPG HWY at 68 MPH.

I haven't even made it to my second fillup yet, so I have no idea what I'm really getting.

I'm getting 21-22 Mixed City/Highway Driving
Seen close to High 20's if I go all highway
What they now take into account.
How vehicles are tested.
Since the CAFE standards are going to get stricter in the coming years, with this new test it is going to cost car companies to achieve the new standards.
I dunno but GM's future on RWD cars really looks grim now.
With these new standards, there goes those advertisement showing GM with 8-10 cars that are in the 30+mpg club (which GM fails to mention HWY MPG). They now join the 20+mpg club.

I think they are a little off... I have averaged 24.84mpg over the last 18K miles (started tracking it around 4300). Most of my driving is under 50mph, I accelerate fairy quick, and I always have the AC on (it's Florida for Christ's sake!). The lowest I've ever seen was 21.22mpg, and the highest was 30.03mpg.
ac's in modern cars do not affect the miles per gallon enough to really even consider

EPA has changed the way it estimates MPG.
Starting in model year 2008, estimates will reflect the effects of
Faster Speeds & Acceleration
Air Conditioner Use
Colder Outside Temperatures
Uh... if they're gonna rate it like that, then they'd better have three sets of numbers. Best Mileage, Average Mileage and Worst Mileage. Otherwise it's just a bunch of crap that doesn't make sense. What's the point of rating a car's mileage with air conditioning if the model you're driving doesn't have any? Same with Colder outside temp when you live in Texas? Or fast acceleration when you don't drive that way? Why would they rate a vehicle that way anyhow? Isn't the whole point of the CAFE rating to rate a vehicles
possible fuel economy?
My Sunfire used to do 23 City/33 Highway and get 27 average. Now it's supposed to be 21 City/30 Highway and 24 average. Which is really funny since I counted it and I get a 28mpg average. Now I know why I get such a high number. Because my car has ZERO options (not even air) so of course I'm going to bust their bogus ratings. Real smart... Now when I see a vehicles fuel economy rating on a window sticker it'll just be a bunch of meaningless numbers. Good job guys!

I understand that, but according to the link Mr. Goodwrench-GT provided:

i agree they shouldn't have stayed with the city / hwy rating they should have maybe broke it down into 3 sections under both city and highway, like you said it should be rated worst / average / best
seems right on for me
not sure what you guys are doing to be able to get mileages like that in a J
in my 3spd 2200 i almost never if ever see 25mpg and im not driving crazy.

Yeah I never pay any mind to what that crappy site says...
This is what it says for my 2006 GTO:
Pontiac GTO 8 cyl, 6 L, Auto(4), Premium
14 city 19 hwy
Funny thing is I've already driven to New York City for work twice in the GTO and both times I averaged 22 to 23 mpg. And that's a 5 hour drive... I think the site is run by a bunch of tree hugging bastards who want everyone to drive 40mpg micro-cars...
My Fquick Page
Like any benchmark the numbers are only useful for relative comparisons. That's how it has to be. Driving conditions and habbits vary too much for any rating to be correct for everyone.
The way to use these numbers is against each other, not against what you are getting. IE: Looking for a new car, do not read the rating and compare it to what you get on your existing car but rather what the EPA rating was for your car or against the EPA rating of another car you are interested in. You like two cars, one is rated 18/24 and the other 20/28, you may or may not actually get the milage they have rated them at but you DO know that the 20/28 rated vehicle will get better milage than the 18/24 vehicle.
That's what they're for. They have never translated into the real world well. I'm glad they are trying to make them a bit more realistic. Personally, on the old system, I have never achieved the milage on the sticker, now it seems you can beat it and actually feel good about it.

Im glad the EPA is broadening their criteria and beginning to accept alternate sources of fuel.

I dunno, I think it is just the opposite. With the new formula Trucks and SUVs only decreased just a little compared with small cars inwhich their decreased a lot, looks as if almost promoting SUVs and Trucks in saying there is now not such a big difference between cars and trucks.

Those numbers are so off.
2002 SL1 SOHC 4spd Auto 24city-34hwy. Bull@!#$, My wife averages 27-29mpg City in hers. Hell my dads 99 SL1 averaged 37-40+mpg's on the highway. And my 89 Cavalier averaged 25+mpg City before the Tranny went out.
I'm definately getting better milage than it says for my car. 23/27/33, not even close, more like 10 miles off. I get 33/37/44 less if I use a/c to an extent of 5mpg less.
