I got me a Mistersquishy!!!

Yes it's a Mitsubishi, LOL. I managed to score this gem from my friend. He needed a running car and I wanted a new project. He traded me this plus $200 for my 87 Horizon.

I appologize for the low quality pics, they're taken with my cellphone.

Anyways, It's a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. Unfortunately it's not turbo'd, but it is the NA 4G63 and 5-speed at least. The body is in excellent shape, and the only rust on the car is some surface rust by the rear wheel, which I have already taken care of. The car also comes with the sideskirts to complete the kit that just need painted, dozens of spare parts, a new clutch kit, and a few various extra goodies.

The downside is that I have to replace the crankshaft and flywheel because my friend is brain-dead when it comes to cars. Also, it needs a new front wheel bearing and brake pads.

I have already ordered the new crank, and have a line on getting a good flywheel. I also ordered a new complete gasket set and head bolts to make sure I do the job right.

As far as future plans, if I keep the car, I'm going to just mainly do appearance and make it a show car. Maybe eventually a few bolt-ons.

Seeing as this is my first ever import, it's going to be a whole new learning experience. And since it is such a more common tuner car that any j-body, perts are cheaper and easier to find, which is nice for once, LOL. Wish me luck!!!

Looks interesting, good luck.
Just please... Get rid of those rims.
It'll look 110% better already.

How many steps to heaven, Doc?
...Ah, metaphysics.

Yeah, but I had basically converted my Horizon to GLH specs, a Shelby Charger suspension, brakes, the GLH ground effects, fuel injection, ect. Plus the body was rust-free and I had almost $2k in the suspension setup alone.

As far as the front end on the Eclipse, I actually kind of like it. It looks bettter when it's in person. Yeah the wheels are kind of supergay, but my main concern is getting it running first, so the minor things can wait, lol. I'll keep everyone updated with pics and info.

New update!!! I have got the engine completely torn down. The old bearings looked great, but will be replaced nonetheless. My crankshaft and head bolts will be in tomorrow. The plan is to have the cylinder head off, the new crank and all main/rod bearings installed, and maybe re-hone the cylinders if they need it.

If the gaskets come early next week, by next weekend the car will be driveable. Wish me luck!!!

a non-turbo to turbo engine swap is not as easy as one would think. Seeing how its basically the same engine. Anyone on the DSM boards you talk to will tell you its not worth it. They'll say sell the car and buy a turbo car. Specially since essentially he's rebuilding that N/T engine.

you traded a Horizon for that riced out POS? It would have been a hell of a lot easier, and probably cheaper in the long run, to drop a 2.2/2.5 turbo motor into the hoizon!

yeah 2.2 turbo horizon ftw ever see an omni GLH(goes like h3ll), would rape a turbo dsm from those years, plus a lot easier to maintain and cheaper to own. yes i'm a mopar nut

People say that what doesn't kill you in this life
will make you stronger. I'm not sure if that is true
or not, but i do know one thing-You have to learn from
it and it has to make you better.......it has to.......

Yeah, I was planning on doing that, but I already have my go-car. (The Sunflower) I decided that it was time for a drastic change and do up a show car for once, and an import to boot. Speed is nice, but going fast isn't everything.

Yes, I know all about the GLH Omni's, and the other older FWD turbo Dodges from that era. As I said before, I converted my Horizon to GLH specs. I was just merely a turbo setup and wiring away from having a truly converted GLH model. I even had the ground effects and foglights from a GLH on my Horizon. Black bumpers and grille also.

And yeah, the FWD turbo Dodges are a helluvalot cheaper to maintain than any turbo DSM. Only the Shelby GLHS and Turbo II / III / IV models would rape a stock DSM though. The "standard" Turbo I engine in the Shelby Chargers and Omni GLH, (the lightest FWD turbo Dodges) put out about 146 HP. Not bad, and stock they ran mid to low 15's in the 1/4. Any 1st gen DSM turbo in great running condition should be capable of AT LEAST mid 14's stock, seeing as they had anywhere from 180-195 HP from the factory. That kind of power in a GLH would be a solid 13 second car.

BTW, the bottom end of the engine is about finished, just waiting on the gaskets and new ARP rod bolts. I'll post pics of it once it is together. The motor is a nice Ford blue, aluminum, and semi-gloss black combination.

I've got a new update: The ARP rod bolts and gaskets came in today, and the bottom end of the engine is now built. As soon as I get the head re-machined and bolted on, the car will be almost driveable. I can't wait to post pics of it when it is done, it will be very nice.
