Going FI when there are no kits....
Friday, August 17, 2007 9:55 PM
How many of you guys know people, or have done it yourself? It seems like it'd be a real bitch to make just about everything yourself, on top of all that...it seems like it'd be a waste of time. If they don't make any kind of a kit, they probably don't make pistons/rods for it....or let alone clutches..So you'd be greatly limited.

Just like to start a topic of interest, I like reading DIY kinda stuff.

What car are you talking about? Only one you have listed in your reg is a 97 Sunfire. Which i'm pretty sure they make a turbo kit for.

I did it with my Cav, back before anything was on the market for us. The manifold is the hardest part...next to tuning of course. Don't forget the ignition/injection upgrades

There's always a kit:

If it's out there, it's on Google.

Oh fer...

Well that's even easier:

IMMA SPIN UP MAH SUPER!!!! SHOOP DA WOOP!!!!

Hell, you can turbo your computer: Link

Seriously, there's likely a DIY Turbo thread on pretty much every car forum with links on how to turbo the platform of choice. If you don't want to do that, you can custom fabricate your own header, fuel system and boost limiter, but it'll take fer-God-damned-ever.

for some people the fun is in the build. its not as fun to buy a kit and take it home and snap it on. they want to BUILD it.

yup. remote turbo baby !!!
turbo lag is negligible when done properly,
and there's just something neat about having a turbo in place of your muffler.
