my 88 mazda truck (B2200)

im having some trouble with power. it doesnt have much of it at all. its a 2.2L carburated engine. i can rarely get it past 80km/h (speed limits 100) i can pretty much get up to 80 in 3rd then shift to 4th and it either bogs down and looses power or it just stays right at 80, plus it doesnt like hills very much. it looses speed going up, and gains it quickly going down. i think this is do to incorrect timing. any other ideas? ??? also, im having trouble starting it and if it does start im having trouble keeping it idling. it doesnt always fire right away, i turn the key and i hear the starter running but thats it. maybe its a starter/solenoid issue? then when it does start...i rev it up and slowly let off the clutch and then it wants to stall right away. im thinking this is all linked together with my power problem. any help would be much appreciated thanks

Ok I own a 87 maz b2200 for the last 21 yrs.I would first remove the EGR clean it with carb cleaner use sand paper if needed to help.Second how old are the plugs, wires, distr cap? Clean the carb too inside and out and change the fuel filter while u are at it if way old.If the cat conv is orig it maybe time to repl it and also the u may want to consider removing the collector which the exhaust manifold connects to bc it has a trape screen inside and if its blocked it reduces power and will choke the engine to death. If this has not been done u have to pull the exh man to remove it and soak it in muratic acid(This works I did this) then use baking soda to remove the acid coating or just soaping water let dry complete. Also the air cleaner has 3 breather filters that are inside the alloy colored assembly that have 3 hoses going to it.If these have not been changed they are prolly toast,I used some large breather filters cut to size from auto zone to fit(dlr has these only).Start simple with tune up stuff, and with the exh stuff it if does not improve go to doing the new cat(recomm) if way old and defin clean the exh collector!!! These are some simple things if u have any more ?just ask I have owned my cabplus since I bought it new it 1987!Hope this helps

To see quickly if the batt, alter are ok u can have auto zone or advance do a check for free.If u do not have a multimeter to chk the voltage. Also check the two ground wires one at the rhs fender close to the batt, then follow that cable down to the frame whereit attaches with one bolt then to the eng block near the oil filter. If the starter is not engaging it may click or not do anything. If it is the orign it probl is toast and u can remove it take it to auto zone they can bench test it,free and I would buy a new one it being that old.I repl mine several yrs ago.I am not sure if u mean u cannot get the trk to start due to need of a tune up,or the starter is starting to fail.Just indicate weather it is not wanting to start bc of a running issue, and not the starter not engaging to start the trk.

well its been running for a while, we adjusted the idle speed a while back and that got it going for a long time. but just recently it stalled and we cant get it going. i have a feeling that the choke is stuck or something. because you can small gas and it doesnt want to stay running. it just puts till it dies. where is the choke on it and im guessing its an automatic choke.

I can tell you from experience those chokes on the carbs stick bad. What u need to do is clean it with brake clean or carb cleaner VERY GOOD, and it is mounted directly behind the carb round in shape going towards the firewall. Should be metal with black plastic and has the cables for the throtte around it and should be rivited in place.Clean the carb with the air cleaner housing out of the way I use long screw drivers to hold up the housing with vac lines removed and use something like liquid wrench,bp blaster to soak the cables and that should free up the sticking of the choke. It is not automatic choke U should only have to depress the gas pedal twice and it should start. Now granted to get it to idle down u depress the gas pedal once to bring it to Normal idle.I normally clean mine yrly with the above and lube with liquid wrench espec the choke mechanism bc it sticks alot and causes high idle to stick on initial start up only.Just clean area as stated and use the recom I suggested and this should correct the choke unless the choke itself it deterioated so bad u would need to repl it.Also spray the lube stuff into the choke assembly .
