I bought a bike from a friend, he cut me a HUGE deal at 1500. Long story short-bike had been sitting for a lont time. I got it running(all it needed was a carb cleaning) and now it's all back together. However, because it sat so long apart, a lot of the fairings have some pretty decent scratches on them...
So, do I sell it as is? Or repaint it? The first time I did it, it was a rattle can job, and it came out really good...it was just the two moves and sitting in my garage for a year and a half on the ground that wasn't good. If I do it this time, it'll be with a gun.
I have no desire to keep it. A friend is very confident I could get 3.5-4K for it if I repainted it..but if I sold it with crappy paint, how much do you think I could get?
Personally I think it's worth nowhere near that...I was thinking 2K...max. It's a 1997 YZF600R. Has 10K miles on it. But, of course I want to get as much for it as I can.
I'll be getting a week off soon from work, if I'm going to repaint it I'll do it then. Otherwise I'll just try to sell it now, but I don't know how much I should try to sell it for with a not so great paint job.
Hey, if you were close to me I'd be all ove the bike. If you check craigslist they go for $2500 or so, but it depends on the condition of the motor and the fairings. Where abouts are you located in S. Texas? PM me if you ever figure out how much you're selling it for and I'll talk to my wife. Been looking for a good, used 600 for months now but no success here in Oklahoma.

I'm way S.Tx man..like 10 minutes from mexico. It'd take you around 13 hours to get to me once you got into Tx, lol.
The motor's in great shape as far as I can tell..doesn't miss a beat. The fairings are clean(no scrapes) but the right one was broken on the top..it's an area you can't see. I still can't decide if I should repaint it or not...
I'd say it depends on the color. If it's something crappy that you alone like than maybe do it different but more than likely somebody will buy it as a starter bike or stunt bike and re-do it themselves someday. I figured you were way down there, I've started checking the Dallas/FT. Worth Craigslist since it'll only be a 3 hour drive and there are alot more bikes on it.

Kinda hard to tell without pics.....
I'd say give it a quick spray and sell it. Its all about first impressions, if someone comes out to look at it and the first thing they see is a shiny looking bike, You're on the right track to making a sale. If the first thing the see is a busted up looking bike, they will start second guessing everything about the bike. Give it a spray and ask 3500 obo, even if they talk you down a grand, you're still on top.
