I really hope this thread can help you guys. Ur making the road more dangerous than it already is by adding a HID kit to your car. so please do HID the right way by doing a retrofit.
HID kits are illegal due to the glare that they cause. Glare is Light that is emitted in a Uncontrollable path. When light is traveling in a uncontrollable path it can hit other vehicle operators affecting there vision because of the High amount of uncontrollable light that is being Emitted from a HID kit in a standard Halogen housing. If you have ever turned a flashlight on right in front of your face while it is dark out, that is the same feeling that the other drivers on the road experience from a standard HID kit.
OEM Vehicles such as Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus are all equipped with HID or Xenon Headlights. Some use reflector housing’s without projectors. Others use HID projectors.
The Lexus IS300 is a Prime Example of a HID reflector housing. It does not use a Projector. It uses a Specially designed Reflector housing that is meant to use HID. This does not create the Super sharp cutoff. But it does control where the light is being Emitted.
Other vehicles such as the Honda S2000 Use HID projectors, These Projectors are meant to use HID. They are Specially Designed and have been tested Hundreds of times to get the right projection of light while maintaining a Good Cutoff.
Here are pictures of Halogen housings mated with a HID kit
This teg is a prime example of Glare. This is what it looks like to oncoming traffic

Its not just honda's either. Here is a mid 90's Lexus with a HID kit..
To date, NHTSA has investigated 24 HID conversion kit suppliers; all investigations have resulted in recalls or termination of sales.

just aim them lower, and you shouldnt have a problem. Mine are aimed lower, and I still have perfect vision...with only a slight bit of glare, but no more than a regular headlight causes.

Why not just do it the right way and not have to aim them lower. If you aim them lower youre not getting perfect vision.
Also, the kits that your show are GENERIC BULB, if you look under our gallery page, you will see that our kits beam pattern is completely different. Do you even know why the glare on the pics you posted is so dramatic? Your taking pics from other websites and just posting them, its funny that you dont even know which kits are installed in them.
i have a question, who the fuk are you steve winslow are you the HID police? you joined not too long ago and your on some sort of HID campaign, when i had hid's in my stock housings on my 02 i had no problems, very little glare and the light wasn't extremely scattered......we don't care they are illegal, everything these days are illegal

Thats a bunch of bull@!#$. I had the mculloch kit in my 02 and the glare was terrible and the beam pattern is a joke. Im posting so everyone knows what they might get with a hid kit. Why not do things the right way. Its just a little more for a OEM HID kit and it looks so much better
Show a pic of the lights at night and at the level that other drivers would see it and you will see all the glare
no one sits on the ground and drives...your eye level is not down at the headlights...
I have HID's yes there was some glare when i used it in my OEM headlight but i use in some projectos they are no S2000 but much better than OEM for 95-99.

I drive alot at night and I notice that even on a flat road STOCK HID on cars is a pain in the ass. If in front or behinde me. It does not matter. I drive at stock hight. SUV's with HID's are much higher than me. They will blind me head on or from behind. Not just SUV's, all those luxury cars also. It does not matter. You can have a cut off and it will still hit you. Wanna know why? Cause roads aint flat. They will still aim into you at one time or another. Hell I don't see a cut off on stock equiped HID cars at night. I just see a bright @!#$ spot up ahead. I do not understand the whole debate over this crap. If it is such a problem, then get the car manufacturers to stop producing them.
Steve, your pictures are biased. You are using pictures of what you call bad with the car parked fairly close to a wall. Your "good" are cars parked at a distance from the wall.

If you really think they are biased take a picture at night 25 feet from a wall and tell me it doesent look like some of the pics I posted. I would be more than happy to take some pictures of mine with my projectors to show the huge difference
And your all fighting about this why??? If the cops in your area don't like what your doin with your car they'll let you know. And since they have not outlawed HID conversion kits then its a moot point to argue over anyway.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

Actually the NHTSA has banned the sale of all HID conversion kits. They are just sold under the table.
steve it's great that you have a giant hard-on to ban hids but where in your article claiming that hids are illegal does it state this? maybe i missed it but all i read from it was people complain and that under Executive Order 12866 and DOT Regulatory Policies and Procedures nothing is gonna be done aboot the 200 cases of frontal lamp complaints received over the last 2 years (wow thats a lot).
your article steve wrote:This request for comment was not reviewed under Executive Order 12866 (Regulatory Planning and Review). NHTSA has analyzed the impact of this request for comment and determined that it is not "significant" within the meaning of the Department of Transportation's regulatory policies and procedures. The agency anticipates if a proposal and ultimately a final rule should result from this request for comment, new requirements would apply to the applicable vehicles and items after the specified implementation date. The request for comment seeks to determine the ramifications of requiring a lower maximum mounting height of headlamps on passenger cars and multipurpose passenger vehicles. It seeks to learn more about claims and causes of glare, to determine whether any kinds of constraints on HID headlamps should be implemented. It seeks information on whether to specifically allow or prohibit purposefully colored headlamp bulbs. It seeks to determine whether and how to regulate auxiliary front and rear lamps that are intended or claimed to enhance safety under certain limited driving conditions.
seeing how safety conscious you are maybe you should do a search on "vss mod", you may find a new cause to champion.
When the hell are you gonna address the more serious problems. Today I was driving around 7 in the afternoon as the sun was going down. I round a bend and there it is the @!#$ brightest thing I have ever seen. We need to get someone to do something about this sun thing. I mean the glare off that thing is rediculose.

I'm sorry but if all HID sales are "under the table" how are there still major websites operating selling them and why are companies running GPs on them on a 22,000 or w/e member site. Soesn't seem all that under the table to me

HaHa
HID lighting is not illegal, don't be a dumb ass. Also, Glare has nothing to do with having HID's. You can have stock bulbs and housings and still have glare.
Any lighting can be screwed up, take a stock headlight and aim it at oncoming traffic and you are breaking the law. If done correctly even a stock housing with HID bulbs can be USA legal, it all has to do with the different lighting zones.
The best place to get REAL information on automobile lighting is from Dan Stern
