This may be a dumb question but what is the purpose of a roof scoop? or is it just for looks

Just for looks. Unless it's for a mid engine car then maybe to cool the engine down.

2 reasons I know of.

On mid or rear engine cars they can act as an air intake, just like a hood scoop.

The more common use is on rally cars as a cabin vent, bringing fresh air to the drivers.

If you make one that does nothing... then it's a retarded ricer mod.

How hard would it be to install one so that it could optionally vent the cabin?

easy, put the scoop on, and cut a hole in the roof

a friend of mine bought a used RX-7 that had one installed by the previous owner and it had the ducts going to the rear brakes... it looked kinda dumb, imo on that car

i guess you could do something like the sunroof deal. you know how they have those things that slide under them so that the sun dont get in? you could make on of those deals but make it "hardcore " something stronger. i think all it would really do is add air resistance but idk if your a racer or if that matters to you or anything....i think it would look pretty cool. i know a guy who did it and it looks cool....his name is lee, he made it on his own....... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/722998/7

me personally rice or not i think it looks sweet it gives a new twist to a cavalier and i think it looks good when added with a ram air hood

me personally i think rice is a state of mind and people like to throw it around too much because when you think about it everyone on the org is a RICERin some way, body kits, hood, fenders, rims, and loud ass sound systems come on its either a cavalier or a sunfire and I'm sorry they are not all that pretty of a car stock so we do what we want to OUR cars to make em look better and to be honest its all rice and personally i don't give a @!#$ who likes it
