Ok I want to put HID/XENON(the one with ballast) lights. What Headlight assembly you guys recomend for this instalation.i really considers using the stock ones but i have a feeling those will not work any well any suggestion??
I have the McCulloch 8000k HIDs in stock housing and Sylvania Xenarc 5400k HIDs in place of my stock fogs.....the McCullochs were a direct fit...jsut depends on your bulb size.....which looks like it'll be 9006 low and 9005 high.....check my profile
by what you have,,,your car must light up the road like a baseball stadium(which is what exactly i want)
It's bright as hell and i have them pointed in front of the car properly......look up a set of McCulloch's on EBAY for abotu $300 and there you go..it's plug adn play...but you do have to tuck away the ballast somewhere..i have mine behind the headlight housings...and the ballast for the fogs are right below that......my HIDs are brighter than may cars that have them as stock which i love....
HIDs are pricey...total for what i have was $600 for headlights and fogs......and i keep the stock headlight bulbs in my glove compartment just in case one of them blows out on me...i can always pop the stock bulbs in
yes they are pricey......but not only the look cool its a safety investment . $600 than can save much more that that(like a life)
Has anyone bought the 9007 bulb version? If so, does that mean you lost your DRLs and/or high beams? Did you install projectors? 9007 bulbs are hi and low beam combined bulbs.
I have been wanting HID for years since most of my commuting is at night in areas with no street lights. If there is major cloud cover then visibility with non-HID is non-existant. I have Sylvania Silverstars in my car right now and they don't compare against an HID system in terms of visibility (still better than the original stock bulbs I had).
Thanks

you will want a 9007 HID b-xenon kit to keep your high/low beams.
I think there pretty new and pricey IMO but here is probably what your looking for. Also not to sure if the bi-xenon kits are available in USA/Canada yet.

my 2 bits
I have the 9007 HIDs.....i lost DRL and high beam capability...but these light up the road so well that i don't mind at all.....the link above..i'm not sure if they are available yet..but i'd be game for those when they do...but for the time being..i love my McCullochs...
Check out the Group purchase for HID's in the GP forum...
Good price- great customer svc.
I am using a 6000k 9007 hid from hiddynamics, I love it and will never have another car without them.
Blackwidow, I don't know what k rating you have but I doubt they are brighter than stock hid's. It may look like it but most of those use the proper projector and aimed right. Kronik had a nice pic comparing a 4300k hid bulb which is stock in almost every car with hid's and a 6000k, the output difference was amazing. 4300k is much brighter.

Hey Fire Fighter....
I've got the 8000k HIDs.....yeah i know the lower ranges ACTUALLY put out more light...but mine are aimed properly on the road and show up more than a stock HID system...(just an observation)...my fogs are street legal HIDs from Sylvania and they're 5400k...check out my profile for a pic

Your lights might appear brighter because most stock 4300K HID applications are in projectors or a specially designed housing which focuses the light. The resulting effect is a well lit road without blinding everybody in front of you (as long as the headlights are aligned properly). When you put HID into a reflector housing, however, the light isn't being focused, but rather scattered which makes it appear more intense. 4300K is definately much brighter than 8000k. If you don't have projectors, i'm glad you went with a higher color temperature, and i'm sure everybody else on the road is too, lol, because your stock housings were not designed for that kind of output.

This is the pic if anybody wanted to see it. It shows how much brighter 4300K is compared to 6000K. Remember the higher the K the less light your gonna get.
6000K on left and 4300K on right. The bulbs were in some hella 90mm projectors.
Its crazy how much brighter the 4300K really is.

that was a great comparison....i know they're brighter...but i i love em jsut the same....the light pattern projected is the same as when i had the stock bulbs in...the pic that i took just makes them look a bit more dramatic (reflected light) than it actually is if i were behind someone....but i made sure to point then down as to not blind incomin traffic

....
I'm still down a ballast and I want 8000K instead of my 4300K stock BMW HID lights. If anyone knows of someone with a extra ballast for DS2's let me know.
8000k is just dead sexy...i'm thinkin about doin the 12,000k or 30,000k just for the purple look since i have the HID fogs to make up for lost light....
My 8000k mcculluhs however you spell it should be in any time now, im sitting at the computer reading about how you guys all got yours in and whatnot and i keep looking out the window. god i cant wait. Sched delivery is still today. how long do they take to install?
Took about an hour becuz i couldn't make up my mind where to mount the ballast....that was the hardest part..everything else was plug and play installation....you're gonna love em.....just make sure you point them down a lil bit
I did both lights in about 15 min's. Piece of cake.
