Looks hot dude! I'm lovin it.
no, props on the work but the doughnut needs to be filled.

maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow....... but some day
FANTASTIC job......
BUT, the fake c/f has to go. please paint it.
remember, this is just my opinion.

Or somehow get some real c/f in there. Paint would look good too. I'm just not a big fan of the fake c/f look either. Looks good to me other than that. Props on the work.
Thanks

i am thinking about paint ing it black. but i still kinda like the red clear plastic, so i donno. i cant decide... haha!!! atleast the housing, if not all will be painted black
Nice man.
1) hate the fake CF look (been there done that)
2) Put the turn signal at the edge of the tail light to fill in the gap there
just my opinion
Good job though.

ok, on to the fun, i mounted the tail last night, and i realized i @!#$ up pretty good. me not thinking, i mounted the leds like the tail was sitting flat on the bench, so the leds poing about 20 or 30 degrees out instead now... haha time to redrill some holes!!!
have you taken that outside in the day and seen if you can actually see when you brake/signal?
looks great!!!
what are you planning for having the distinction between brakes and parking?
is that a 9V battery i see youre using to test?

yes thats only a 9v. i dont know how much the car puts out for running nights, but it has been explained about 1/2 to me. so when you hit the brake the full 18.8v hit the leds and they brighten up. quite a bit. as far as brightness, when i get them aimed right(had to dis assemble the whole dam thing to do this)you should have no problem doing this, and somone shouldnt be on my ass close enough to have to worry bout not seeing them.... haha. the turn signal as you can see is seprate, i ran power to them and was having problems. so i figured since i had to rip everythign out, i would @!#$ with it later. but like i said, there should be NO VISIBILITY ISSUES DURRING THE DAY. thanks guys keep the thoughts comming
hmmmm i have come accrossed a problem... haha remember how i said that it should be fine in the daY???? well i was basing that off of a big ass light i have in my shop, that and i could see it fine. well i took it outside today, granted it is on a 9v battery, not the 12-14 that the car runs that it was set up to run, but it is kinda hard to see when the sun is directly on it. from anyone else that has done this, would a tinted lense help? i woudl think it would either prevent the light from interfering with the leds, or the other way around and prevent the light from gettting out... tell me what ya think on this one....
you cracked the lens but it looks good
i got some lenses coming from izn, the tails dont look anything like that anymore... haha to many thoughts goin on at once. i will get everyone an update soon, does anyone have any ideas how to fix the problem durring the day??
What I would do is this, run the test off the car's electrical system and compare results. By using a 9v battery, you already have an intensity problem right there as the resistors still doin their job. Just pop the hood and use the car battery. Run 1 test, engine off, and a second test engine on. Make sure it's in direct sunlight.
Doing it that way will have a visual test of 12V-ish to 13.8-ish and if it still didn't help, you may need to step up the intensity of the LED's
well, arn't you glad i asked you the daylight question......
first i see two problems happpening.....
you said 18. something volts? i really don't think sooo
most of your car runs on the average of 12 V... up to 13.8
check all your resistors,
2ndly, the way a regular tail works is by having two fillamnets inside the bulb, one lights for parking, the other for brake....
the same situation alsomst works for the leds..... theres a few that light up for parking, but the rest light up for brake... so if you wire in all your leds for brake, but then seperate maybe everyother one, and have half of them lit, that should work
as far as brightness, you should have a problem during the daytime for parking, but i would say maybe look into some wide angle led's!
what is you Mcd on the ones youre using?

i have the same tail lights...when ur done with those, can i send u mine to work on? lol
they are 6000mcd's, and as far as the brake/running those are seperated. but i dont have a problem durring the day unless the sun is shining directly on them. as far as stepping up the intensitiy do you mean just useing a smaller resistor???? ight thanks
mike
By stepping up the intensity, you would use higher rated mcd LED's. Best bet would be to take my advice and run it from teh car battery as a visual test.
looks like an awsome idea, just keep working at it till you get all the bugs worked out.

well i worked out some quick disconects in the trunk so that i can just plug and play. and they are fine unless the sun is directly on them. but talking to a freind of mine, he mentioned that his stock trans am tails are the same way. i cut up my stockers to know, so does this happen to everyone? i have noitced it before, just thought it was glare on the winsheild or somthing... hele me out!!!!

Youy need to listen to this guy. He knows what he is doing.
@z24: K, now we're getting somewhere. This is what I think is happening.
Since you have the LED's exposed, the overall intensity of the sun is overpowering the intensity of the LED's. Also, it could be that the viewing angle of the LED's when compared to the ambient lighting (sunlight) is posing a conflict.
There would be now 2 solutions -- one is a rework of the design and have the LED's recessed in (the recess will act as a "shade" for the LED's directing the light, and hopefully blocking the sun. The easiest way to do this rework is to mount the LED's to a board of some kind (PCB, Perf, etc.) and mount the board afterwards, behind a clear lens. This rework will also have more symmetry in the overall LED layout as well
The second would be to add LED's, but with them exposed, I'm more than certain that the same problem will arise.
Welcome to the world of trial and error...
As for the stock tails, most if not all, will be hard to see in direct sunlight, I'm sure you've witnessed it with the older, non-transparent, tails. Heck, my stock Fire tails do the same thing.
