convertible top install (3rd Gen)
Saturday, October 20, 2007 10:57 AM
I searched and read nothing of any use.

How hard is replacing the top? I know it takes some time. And who in your opinion makes the better fitting top that needs less fabing to make fit properly? and also pin point of cloth? i know the pros and cons of both, i have never seen a cloth top on a vert and did not know if it looked any good?

Also is the window a pain in the @$$ to put in on a new top.

Thanks

I can have it done from $500, I have to buy the top and the shop will charge $350 for the install. Mind you the top is not an ebay top, I cant put myself in that spot to but a top from ebay. Ive also found a top shop that can get every seal on my vert for 200 bucks. even the windshield seal that cost 450 at GM. I jumped on that. I cant move the vert right now anyways all four corners have no brakes installed.......swap........ and Im just wanting to replace the top durring the winter months.

You can get the main seal for $310 from gmpd, but for $200 for all the seals is an amazing price and you can find decent tops on Ebay, some here have done so.Also $350 is cheap for an install,it's about $650 here from a shop that's been around for 10-15yrs.I'd make sure what all they are doing for $350

I wouldnt seal that up, Id find a new or very good condition used one from a yard.

350 is for the top and placement of rear window period. And the seals I can do in a days time and a 12 pack.

Anyone need seals? Ill go see if the top shop I priced that at is still open for the end of season. Its located near my j-yard, Ill get a phone # and anyone who want to check on pricing can just call....(I want no part in a GP on this for my reasons).

Yeah I'm interested in the main seal, and that price I gave was for all new seals, top, etc:hence the higher price. but yeah if they have the main seal for lower than $310 that's cool.

Droptop:If you want to seal it for the meantime, black silicone sealer(rtv) is what I used,on the cavs they usually leak where the seal on the top itself meets the main vert seal.Upon the advice of the conv.shop I went to,I took the seals on the top off and shimmed them with washers to push the seal out a little and used vasoline to help swell them up a little.
