Got a huge problem! help please!
Saturday, December 29, 2007 11:01 AM
So the cav has been sitting for about a week and i think i left the radar detector on and now the car is dead. I have shaved handles and have no way of getting in the car to get the hood open to jump it. Do you think a lock smith could get it open? I tried jimmying the back seat down from the trunk but its not working. I cant get the hood to pop from the outside either. Anybody have any Ideas?

I really appreciate the help thanks!!!!

just cann caa or aaa and they can come unlock your door from the outside. its just like locking your keys inside. for the future i have seen a special buton with a separate 12v battery for just suck an occasion to pop the door open for you with a little hidden button that you put somewhere.

its called an emergency backup button

take the front bumper off, and get to the latch from under/inside.

then charge the batt.

Just call someone and say you locked your keys in your car. My girlfriend locked her keys in her car before, and the guy came after a little while and used this pump thing to pump the top of the door open just enough to reach this long arm thing inside and open the door. In your case, just get them to actually pull on the handle. They should be able to do something for you. Something you should look into is relocating your hood release some where under the car, hidden, but still easily accessible if you know where it is.

This is why you always install a manual popper. Either use a wire or a button...ALWAYS do this when shaving the handles off

Im really not sure how the hell AAA is going to help. They can unclock your door, but i dont know if they can pull the popper..

One option, and i'm sure you don't have the tools i have, but you can improvise and go in through the top of the door jam. LIke your were going to pop the lock...and then pull the door handle...i assume those are still hooked up from the inside?

Joeys idea also sounds like a great solution...

Come to think of it, i have a buddy with tools, in your area. Ill give him a call and see if he is still in town. (He travels like me)

Hell do it for free, but you might want to offer up a pizza or a 6 pack...to be nice...

There are 1 million things you can do to prepare for just this situation. Having another set of wires hooked up to your poppers and run somewhere easy to get at is another way to do it, then just stick a 12v battery to them when you need to. Can you open the back seats from inside the trunk? It doesnt look like you have your trunk shaved.

just reach in under the hood (between the bumper and the hood) and pull forward on the hood cable.... 2 sec. job. Just make sure to put the cable back into the latch assembly before you close the hood.

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.

Well I'm one that has learned over time how to do this with in just a few seconds. I too am fully shaven without any extra in. Just lay down under the front of the bumper, and put your hand up towards the latch. You will feel a little plastic cover. Push that back towards the car, and you will feel a spring. On one side of the spring there is a tab. Push it towards the spring I think, or the other way to pop the latch. Then open your hood. Best and easiest way to do it I think. As soon as you put the cables to the battery you can just pop your door open.

dear lord i had no idea it was so easy to pop our hoods without the pull on the inside

anyways, if you cant get the hood open and dont want to do a button, you could always add an extra power cable off your battery and run it down into a remote location under the front of the car so you can just throw a jumper cable on it, find a ground somewhere and viola... charged batt.

lol just dont let anybody know about it

If you had an amp in the trunk, it'd be easy, disconnect the amp, and hook jumper cables to its power and ground, pop your doors, open hood, and jump the car from the battery directly.

^^^ What he said. J's easiest car to do this. You can damn near stick your whole hand in just by pulling on the corner of the door. Catch the handle with the hook end and you're in

i like the seperate battery terminal idea. you could stick them in the trunk and cover them up so they dont short. or like it was said, go by your amp power wire if you have one. i guess this is a lesson learned...

Just pull on the top of the door (at the rear of it) and stick in the hanger.
