I have a metallic ticking, tinging sound coming from the front of my car. It happens during take off either forward or reverse. during letting out of the clutch and pressing the accelerator the front of the car will emit one tick sound. I will be looking at it tomorrow but if you have any ideas it would greatly be appreciated. The car is a 2001 sunfire with a 5 speed manual and a 2200 engine..
how are your cv axles? one might be going out?
That was my guess, ill hopefully figure it out later on today when I get out there.
Methinks its my transmission getting to the end of its life. The axles seem honky dory. with the car jacked up when you turn the wheel by hand the transmission makes atinging sound when the gears stop the wheel from moving that i dont remember hearing before.
If notice that the clunking tingy sounds also happens when shifting the lower gears while driving. Can anyone help?
whats the milage????? have u done the ball joints in the past. as u stated, it emits one tick. my 96 does the same thing, it has 220 000 km on it and it needs its second set of ball joints. it doesnt seem like theres any play in it. hop that helps.
Well I am no 3rd gen expert but,if being the wheels off the ground and manually turning it sounds more like a cv joint issue. The ball joint would not being clicking or click with the wheel not being under a load. The boots may be good but the joint could be worn and if the transmission was in question and noisy while driving could be bearings in the transmission would be just noisy not clicking.Bearing noisy is normal wear and would be heard in gear or neutral unless the clutch is depressed.I would be looking at the cv joint even if the boots not busted those joints show wear with noise as you described. If you go do decide to go with new cv's buy new ones it is cheaper to do that a rebuild with a warranty at that in my exper.Hope this helps and if I am incorrect or left something off may others add/correct to this.
