Major Problem - ECO related.
Friday, July 22, 2005 8:25 AM
I KNOW, i know, maintance forum, but more people look here first.

I finally fell into the land of Swapped eco owners. About 7 days ago, myself and 2 buddies, swapped out my old 2200 for a 2.2 Eco. YAY!.

But the damn thing only worked for 40 mins, then stopped.

Im like wtf? I got oil, fuel, spark, and sounded ok till the very end.

I had the car parked ontop of a cardboard sheet, just so i can see if anything leaks.

Well no leaks.

I tried to start it again, No good.

So i start checking hoses, fluids. and electrical too.

Vacuume hoses were fine, Gaskets looked ok, Checked battery, grounds, fuses, fuel, pump, coolant, etc.

I checked the oil, to find the pan just about empty. But oil pressure was fine before it died. So where did the oil go?

I pull the coils and boots, to notice them soaked in oil. The top of my plugs were swimmimng in a pool of oil, but the actual pintle wasnt.

So i seemed to be a valve cover gasket failure. But there is no oil anywhere else around the valve cover.

So i think a bit, and decide to pull off my Valve cover. I have extra gaskets, and stuff, so that will be an easy fix.

I pull the cover, and 3.5 to 4 quarts of oil pour out from the top of the cover. Oil EVERYWHERE.

By this time im cursing up a storm. Im soaked in oil, my cars bay soaked in oil.

Im pissed. After a shower, and a driveway cleanup, i check my old gasket. Looks fine, but some oil is still pooling on the top of the engine. So i take a suction pump, and pull the rest, and i can still see oil in the passages. SO wtf?

Its not draining back by gravity, And all the gaskets were brand new and didnt seem to to blocking anything off.

Did i miss something here?

Any ideas?

Help?

If i cant figure this out soon, im gonna have to put my 2200 back in the car.

First I want to rant. Why the @!#$ was this post moved? It has to do with a ecotec swap, not working, which swaps have always been in the performance section. I would not have seen this post if it had not been post in the performance section.

Did you have your breather filter hooked up (of the valve cover?) I heard of a case on a 2.2 OHV where it was not getting vacumm, and oil was not leaving the valve train.

Because its a maintenance issue, it really doesn't have anything to do with the swap, oil isn't draining out of the top of his motor.

something is blocking the oil draining back , id have to look at the head to see where the drains are

but it sounds like you got some serious problems somewhere , and part of it the motor you got is bad , or has serious problems that you arent aware of

Ok then you need to move the post about spark plus in the performance section.

yeah it has to do with the swap, this was first start up of the swap, the swap really is not done yet because it is not test well.

Ive had the engine for 8 months or so in storage, Putting money into it, since i intended to swap, no point in spending good money on the 2200.

It has new valves, springs, retainers, Gaskets, header, TB, Lightened pulley, New mounts, new alt, new oil pump, New cams, new plugs, new coils, and the such.

Im using a flexible probe to check the oil passages, but found nothing yet.

It was in performance but someone put it here. O knew that it would happen. It resided on the boundary of maintance and performance.

BTW, I had no luck finding a clogged oil passage. My 2200 is now back in my car.

Thanks mike, thanks chris.

In the last three weeks, according to you,

You went to the Bash, yet have no proof.
You were in an accident, you posted pictures of the damage.
You swapped in an Ecotec, ran it for 40 minutes, then swapped back in your old engine, no proof.

So, out of the three, I only believe the damage to the car.

Besides, you're the one posting BS, so you prove it.

LOL i didnt swap my engine in 40 mins, Not even the all mighty satan can do that.
It took 5 hours to swap back my 2200, Broke my injen intake in the process, scratched the paint off the radaitor cover, and still took an hour to figure out why it was running like crap. Duh, gotta plug the MAPsensor and IAT sendor back in.

I dont have to prove anything to you. I know what i did, my buddies that helped me with both swaps no what was done. YOu dont even have a J. I havent actauuly seen your jenny craig wana be ass in almost a year, which im happy for, And you take every opportunity you can to boost your ego. Well you know something, Ill go to your house, Tow your ass over to my apartment, and you can take a look for yourself, and if you run away like Lundis does everytime, Then i know your afraid to be wrong.

Im not afraid to be wrong, im wrong alot, Im only the antichrist after all, you cant expect a miricle everyday. But when i give you the option to prove me wrong, you guys run away. So i give up. YOu want proof, come on over and prove me wrong. Till then STFU.

There new.

I found out what went wrong though, and i dont have the money at the moment to buy a new head.

The head itself cracked on the inside section of 4 oil passages. What caused it, i dont know. However I could have them bored out, to clean them up and cleared out, but Its cheaper to just buy a new one.

Im gonna salvage what ever parts are still in good shape, and wait till i get enough money to but a new head.
