Stevefire - No, no problems with spun bearings ironically. I've got 158,000 miles on my engine, stock bottom end. I replaced the cyl head at 110k, and with all i have replaced, with the combination of me beating the @!#$ out of it at the races every weekend, I'm surprised it hasn't let loose. With the exception of the pisspoor fuel system design, this motor seems to be fairly durable. It takes a beating, while not necessarily continuing to perform 100% the whole time, but it doesn't break down. I've never broken down strangely.
If the fuel problem could be solved, and tuning were simpler, I'd love to see someone build a 2.2 for over 500 horsepower. The block is strong. But the crank will need work, if the stock crank can even be say micropolished and balanced to take that abuse, of course pistons and rods, every surface decked, drivetrain built to take it, etc etc. It can be done, hell I'll do it. I just need money.
i dont believe event said 360hp...
event has said 1

as for who has the most power... thats up in the air.... if you keep shelling any amount of money in an engine, you can easily get to 300 horsepower, 500 horsepower, maybe even 6-700 horsepower. thing is who here is that dedicated? how many people do you see complain about prices for quality parts, but waste money on neons and accesories, when all they talk about are being fast???
mike karas did 410 whp out of a 2.4, but not many people here will ever get near to shelling out that amount of money for an engine and tuning.... i know karo (who was cool to hang out with all yesterday) did like 354 on nitrous.... maybe a bit more..... but both were 2.4's-------
on 2.2;s there are a bunch of fast ones, 14;s and 13;s scattered through the past and recent, also a decent few in the boost forum as said... adler being one who posted in this post.
however for anyone saying boost is needed to make a fast car.... its about time to start setting aside a few hours a week and learn about engines and how they work... thats all i;ve done the past 3 years, and i am still learning stuff. suspension, roll center, cg, articualation, camber, caster.....that came easy to me with racing growing up. engine internals.... whole new endeavor.
granted boost is a quick way to get there, if the link i posted above, byron can do so with n/a and run 13.6;s, then anyone can IF................ people would start taking time to know what they are doing. some are.
saddest part about forums with cars, and hell even the health and fitness forums i frequent. only a few take time out to learn, and then learn more on their own. many seem to just want handouts like city bums when it comes to knowledge or size gains in weightlifting. case in point, watch any forum and see how much repetitive stuff gets asked in the course of one week.
ronnie coleman, mr olympia is famous for saying:
"everyone in the gym wants to be a bodybuilder, but dont no one wanna lift no heavy "arse" weights"
with cars its similar:
everyone wants to be fast, but not many wanna do any research or learnin
theres ALOT of you on here i have met in person, especially from Jersey J's, Sinister J's, and random groups that are headed in the right direction. just from their ideas and plans etc.... as long as they keep with it, learnin and moddin, should be there in the future.
everyone on this forum has the ability to do so, but its starting to seem very few ever have a plan, nor the patience to follow through with anything. once the majority of the posts in the performance forum switch from petty stuff like
"what plugs should i buy
what intake should i buy
what wires are the best
what filter is the best"
stuff that doesnt make a large difference really....
to stuff thats a bit more technical, with as many 2200;s and 2.2 93-97 on this site,
there will be plenty more 15 and 14 second cars, and a handful more 13;s.
and keep in mind theres alot of locals in the lower 48, that never even come on this site. theres a black, silver, and blue 2200 ran at capitol 2-3 years ago this summer, that was running mid 14's N/A, lived somewhere near severna park / arnold, MD.

I believe Joe Almeida was the fastest NA...his engine is in the classifieds right now (in pieces)...
dont know how fast he ran, but the radiator i got from his car is sweet. that man did his homework on how to build a car for speed.
