say i were to take a high powered leaf blower and rig it with some clever fabbing to act like a s/c? i know those turbonators are total bullcrap but some leaf blowers are really heavy duty. even if a leaf blower setup would add only like 15hp or so it would be worth it i think.
i dunno but like the title says. one freaking crazy idea.

Ahh the newbs.
Even the most powerful leafblower only adds about 1 PSI. Not enough to do much of anything except make alot of noise.

holy crap and i thought i was the only nutball to think about that idea. i didn't realize how little psi that a leafblower actually puts out. man that really puts a s/c and turbo in perspective as to how powerful they really are and how there is really no simple way to duplicate their ability for forced induction.
ah i'm not that much of a newbie.
i just figured that if the turbocrapper made .25 psi then if a leafblower was like 20 times as powerful then maybe if would make like 3-4 psi. oh well. live and learn or some bs like that.

rig up an aircompressor like for air ride and just force it into your intake. SC and turbos are just an air compressor not a leaf blower

ok ok ok... rig up something that is CRANK DRIVEN then you will have a "supercharger". until then... just spend the money and buy something that makes sense.

superchargers dont increase the speed of air coming into the engine, they compress it. Thats a little different. Last I checked a fan doesn't compress air.

That wont work very well.
Even if you have a 100% Duty compressor, Its gonna have to be belt driven to keep up, With the engine, And even then, You may get a higher PSI level, but the overall volume of air is quite small.

it seems that people will never understand that the only way to turbo or supercharger your engine IS WITH A TURBO OR SUPERCHARGER
if there was another way to do it, I think it would have been thought of by now
since turbos were invented in the 1890s, then first used on a gasoline engine in 1925 if there was a better way to do it.. I think someone would have thought of it by now
^^^ true most of the time, But look how long the time differance was before the first gas engine and the rotary.
Just because there isnt a better option now, doesnt mean someone somewhere come up with a better way to do it.
Personally i find that Making Newbs running through a gerbal wheel works quite well. And the only maintance is remove 1 corpse and put a new one in.
No food or water needed, Since newbs are so prevelent.
BYW, im not calling you a newb, sqwrl, just using it as an example.

There's no reason why a supercharger has to be crank driven. It's just convenient to do so. A person could use a Vortec supercharger and a 2 stroke engine mounted in the trunk to provide forced induction. And it's completely possible to design a supercharger system that spins at a fixed rpm no matter what the engine speed. Simply use a blowoff valve to allow excess air to escape when the pressure is right. And this system could produce full boost on demand, every time the throttle is opened.
A leaf blower would add hp. NA engines create vacuum in the intake, and the leaf blower has the potential to maintain 0-1 psi. This is an increase in pressure above the NA engine. There will be a reduction in "pumping losses" as well as an increase in cylinder filling. Too bad that 0-1 psi is all you get for the work you did to install it. And if the total volume of air moved by the leaf blower is less than the engine demands at any point, your leaf blower will become one big restriction in the intake system.

in order to compress a gas all you need is enough force to fit more gas into a space than it would normally occupy at a given tempature. a fan can do that if it is strong enough. that is why i thought maybe a leaf blower fan may be able to force a little bit more air into it.
a turbo is just fan anyways.

i knew that a leaf blower wouldn't be nearly as strong as a s/c or turbo but i thought maybe it may make a little boost if that was all i was looking for. i just didn't realize just how weak a leaf blower was.

most newbs arent shelling out for alot of performance parts or anything of quality.... thats why the whole tuner market has been piss poor for quite some time now...
newbs usually try to find the cheapest crap on ebay and then post in areas like suspension saying "their car only bounces a bit more than their friends" and think its supposed to do that.
the people supporting the performance market of j-body are those learning and actually buying quality parts...

yeah Event i know what you mean, that is true. But i am trying to learn and do it right the first time. I know that there is no easy, cheap way to make the car go faster. That's why i have like a notebook and a half full of notes on just my 2.2L OHV engine trying to get the most bang for my buck.
but also like i said i'm deffinately not gonna get worked up over anything stupid such as name calling or the such.
