2200 engine

this is kinda a dumb question but i have a 98 5spd 2 dr. outside of making sure that a donor car is a manual is there any reason i would have a problem swapping in whatever year engine that the 2200 came in. i finally am going to start on my n/a all motor car but i need to buy a motor to build up. also for anyone who has done a swap of this sort, how long does pulling the old motor and putting the new one in take

thanks
brandon

the 2200 ran from 98-02 while the previous 2.2 OHV ran 95-97. You want the 98-02 2200 over the previous. And as far as swapping... just depends on how fast you work but reserve a week just in case something pops up.

ya, but the ecotech swap is a lot of work isn't it? i know there's a write up but u have to like change the fuel tank, fuel lines under the car, etc. Just search for the how to on it. there's a thread on it from a while ago.

But as for getting the engine, it doesn't even have to have to same transmission on it. the engine is the same regaurdless of the tranny that was on it. the bolt pattern is the same. but do make sure you get 98-02, the 95-97 is different. There were also a few slight differences between the engines in the 98-02 range, some had egr, some didn't? i thought i read that somewhere. might be wrong. But my point is, u might want to get whatever ecu from the engine u get, so if u have to because of it having/not having egr, u can use that. Can anyone confirm what i thought i read about there being an egr difference?

the eco swap is a pain in the nuts, while the 2.2 OHV, 2200 OHV, and 2.4 TC have all the same mounts

95-97 2.2
98-2000 2200

theres a very long post out there that will tell you all the differences (evolution) of the 2.2

most of the holes for mounting the motor are in the right place the transmission changes
