I am planning on ordering the MSD DIS ignition and had a few questions first.
should I get the MSD coils or will I be ok with stock coils for now? Do I need to buy anything else for the install? Is it an easy install on the 2200? Just wanted to clear things up before I buy. Also should I get it from turbotech racing? thanks
You'll want t he coils and also some low resistence 8mm wires. You CAN use the stock units, but then you're just wasting money on the module, and you run the risk of burning out the coils due to increased load. As far as installation, "easy" is a subjective term. If you're good with electrical wiring and know your way around an engine, you can figure it out. They should send you the instructions, though. Just follow them and have a shop manual handy and you'll be fine. Tuning the module will be the tricky part.
Oh, I almost forgot... RSM was selling the whole thing as a kit. DIS II module, coils, wires, everything. Check them out before you buy from the other place.
cool..thanks Mr. Clean!
I have Accell Thundersport 8mm wires and ac/delco plugs already. so I will just buy the module and coils. what kind of resuls will I get?
On a stock motor, the thing you'll notice is the engine will rev more smoothly. Your engine will also run more efficiently, but power gains won't be seen until you upgrade other areas. I recommend adding a piggyback fuel controller, and possibly injectors, pump, and an adjustable regulator. This will allow you to add more fuel and the DIS module will allow you to adjust the fuel and timing to essentially force the ECU to run more aggressive maps. And of course, an intake and exhaust wil lalso help if you don't already have them. Check out my profile. I'm still working on the piggyback air/fuel control, but tuning everything by the seat of my pants has gotten some decent results. Even running coils and wires, I'm able to add more fuel and know I don't have to worry about fouling my plugs, and the mix burns completely. The module will give you more flexibility than what I have now.

I just got an MSD DIS 2 and im having trouble with the timing function. The one that i got has the dip switches. I set it to retard timing 4 degrees at 4000 rpm. How do i know if it is working or not? Same with the multiple spark function. How do you know if it is working. I know i set it up right cause the staging rev limitor works great but im not sure about the rest. Thanks

What is it doing? That kind of thing can be hard to trouble shoot unless you know what is happening.
