I just got my upper and lower rksport motor mounts and I wanted to know of any tips you guys might have for the install. I from searching that I dont really need to remove the wheel or wheel well, just jack up the car and lightly jack the motor with a woof block to spread the weight (for lower install).
Should i grease the outsides of the dogbone mounts? I dont want any squeeking if I can avoid it. Also, what sort of vibration are we talking? Is this going to be shake a penny off the dashboard vibration at idle, or is it more like a school bus vibe at idle? lol
And lastly, do any of you actually have measured power of what the upper and lower take back in tq gains?
Thanks for any tips in advance.
I don't know about the upper, but I have not noticed any squeeking from the lower, but you will get more vibration, alot more. the lower is verry easy to instal, simple R&R, the upper you will have to support the engine with a wood block and a jack, and remember to have fun!
Some times the best way to get that tailgater off your but is to light a fart.
I supported the engine for the upper and lower mounts just incase. You never know. They are easy as cake to install.
You should get no squeaking at all from either mount. I have both mounts on me ECO, and i get no squeaking. The whole idea behind the mounts is to keep things from moving. If it doesn't move, it won't squeak. You may want to grease up the lower mount bushings however just to make them easier to install (I used a rubber mallet to hit it into place).
They are super easy to install though--very straightforward. Just make sure, as you said, to support the engine with a jack that has a block of wood on it---for both mounts. The hardest part of my install was that the engine moved back slightly when i took out the stock upper mount. You can pull it back into place easily though.
I just go my two mounts today too. I can' t wait to get them in, but I think I'm going to wait until spring. A little warmer.........just keeping an eye on this thread too. I've also researched and noted that we don't have to remove the wheel.
The vibrations aren't that bad on my car. Very easy to install. Just remember that you're not "gaining" any power from the mounts just freeing up what you already have.
The upper -> support motor.
The lower, no need. All it really does is stop the engine moving backwards and forwards, as the upper mount is what really supports the weight of the engine.
When I dropped the subframe in my car... I left the engine and trans in, with the upper engine mount and both trans mounts still attached. Had no problems.
^^^ that just made me feel SOOO much better knowing that, lol. I only have the Upper in right now cuz I wasn't sure about everything, for example torque specs. What are they for the lower?

you won't gain anything
stiffer motor mounts keep the engine planted in its place, so it'll help to prevent sudden shock to the wheels or drivetrain components, prevent wheel hop, and help for initial torque application (decreases loss of INITIAL torque since engine is rock solid in place)
if you're concerned about vibrations, do the transmissions mounts too. upper and lower motor mounts plus the transmission mounts almost completely negates all the horrible vibrations into almost stock. It does vibrate, but no where near as bad as just with the upper and lower motor mounts
