This past weekend I swapped my stock TB on my 2200 with a 56mm 2.3Ho one. Initially everything was fantastic, I even posted in a thread somewhere on here after. Well I spoke too soon........
I took it for its first run, and noticed quite a big difference, however after about five minutes the RPM's jumped a bit and as a result the check engine light came on. Left the battery unhooked overnight to clear the light, next day warmed it up....everything good. About an hour after that, I started it again, once it warmed up, revs jumped a bit, bang threw a code again. I even tried another TPS I had here, same thing. I checked Vac lines, everything is good. To me it sounds like a sensor issue, is it possible that both used TPS's I have here are faulty. It doesn't do it all the time, just every 20 min or so the revs jump a bit throwing a code.
The car runs great, no difference in performance with the light on, I guess I could just ignore it, but Its annoying, and if another code registers with the light already on I wont know, and that concerns me.
Is this a common problem? Is there anything I can do, or do I have to ignore it, and leave it alone? Im concerned that when the light comes on, the car goes into like a safe mode, and that will hurt performance...am I right?
Do alot of you drive around with the CEL on?(lol)
HEEEEEELP!!!!!
This is one of those things Im glad I have a scan tool for.
Anyways seems like it would most likely be a sensor issue to me.

TPS or IAC probably. make sure you are using the ones for the 2.3 tb not the 2200 tb ones.
The IAC fits right in from the 2200 TB vs the 2.3l, I actually just finished my swap too

But, seeing that the sensor was from like 94, I went ahead and got a new one from Advance. $35 or so, IMO it's a good idea!
Failure is not failure if you learn from it
Well, I tried yet another TPS, and an IAC, but same pulsing idle issue. Is it possible that a bad IAT, either sensor or connection be to blame, or am I wasting my time looking into that?
Its going to be a couple more weeks until I can even get my car out of the garage(snow) to take it somewhere to get the code read......was hoping I could fix it myself.
Searching around here ive read that the wires leading into the IAT conector become easily broke, maybe when I was working on the car taking off/putting on the intake, I stretched the wire, or broke a connection. Would the pulsing idle be a symptom of an IAT problem?
The next step is to take the TB off and retrace my steps, just wondering if I should look into the IAT first
Thanx
Jeff
pulsing idle? sounds like a vacume issue.
Did you reconnect all 4 vacume lines or just 3? did you use a t fitting or did you actually make another vacume fitting?
Yup, I teed the 2 small ones, and hooked up medium, and large(booster)
that might be your problem. A few others had the same issue, and it was you were getting much less then needed vac for those two hoses then prior.
Thanx everyone for your help. I changed the IAT sensor connector in the intake(looked damaged), and finally found an IAC the car likes, and she purrs nice after 2 days, 45 min of running in total.
Probably sounds stupid but it almost seems like the longer it runs, the better it gets.....
Jeff
Wow! You've been running your car for 2 days and 45 minutes straight! lol
Just kidding. Good job bro.
yah mine idled erratically too when i put it on..you have to remember it takes the computer time to relearn the new part....sounds stupid but its true since mine did the same thing and after a few days it was fine..phil
