Port matched HO manifold..not bad
Sunday, April 30, 2006 6:58 AM
There are still some gems out there on ebay, esp when I only have to pay shipping to get it :

First let me apologize to whoever I outbid to win it, if you're part of the org.

About the mani,
Very nice porting job me thinks.
On the hump side inside there's extra material to kinda direct the flow more even.

Best I can desribe, if you've seen your stock mani, you konw there's the velocity stack at the end of the ports on the runner.
Similar idea here, which I was pleasantly suprised.

What I'm gonna do:
Basically I'm gonna enlarge the mounting holes a little,
Even the stock manifold mont holes are a little larger.
Got a Chris Fontana flange comeing for kicks and giggles too since I'm auto.

Also, maybe if I get high off something, I'll make the tb opening accept up to 60mm.
But 56mm is good too.

Finally,
How did you guys get rid of all the extra mount screw holes to meake it look silky smooth?
Dremel off, add a filler, moother down, and repaint?

Thanks for reading,
-M

dont know how well the adaptor flange will work now. its meant for manifolds not port matched. now that yours is, it will not seal and allow for the best flow. could be wrong tho.

With his newer design maybe.

Final bid was $242.
This was the second one i've seen from the same seller.
Going in I figured, I won't bid as much as the mantapart version.

So after paypal gift certificates, selling some things, effectivly I only paid for shipping.

I've don'e the swap a few times before.
Ghetto port matching and everything. (on the head and manifold)
Hopefully this time everything will be as it should.

Still seems like alot of $$, and the phenolic flange is meant to blend the 2 port shapes, since yours is already port matched, the flange won't fit well at all, might as well just make your own.

No flange is needed.

True, but its uneven when the tb is actuall bolted up to it.
I found this out when I was using a 59mm 2.3L tb on the thing.

Dang, didn't think could be that massive.
There's enough material for that?
lol

Once I get my charger, chances are I'm gonna keep mine and mount it on the wall haha. It's the first mod I did to the car. It's sentimental.

i think i coulda got 70mm on the intake , but that all requires a different tb

i had my intake done , when i was gonna get the 65mm tb from fdp from that gp , alot of us got screwed on

Mastin,

I have a similar port matched HO intake manifold. So far all I have done is cut off the extra bolt holes with a sawsall. I will take a grinder and smooth out the cuts then the rest of it will get hand sanded smooth. After that it is getting sent to the powder coater

Been there three times before, which by the way I DO have an HO mani I need to put up for sale. Holes drilled ready to bolt up. Tb to go with it too if need be.

But I wanted port matching this time.
Unlike a lot of folks around here (middle country, west coast, canada), aint too many places where stuff gets done near me. Cheap or not.

^^^ guess folks missed that.
I don't need extra cam towers I didn't think. Sold em.

material was added to the "hump" and to the bottom of the port. and the adaptor isn't that great because it isn't a gradual change. i've tried the adaptor... meh.

oh no i saw the free part other than shipping but youd still have the card and stuff left over if you found a cheeper one and i totally agree on the port matching and you not having any one around to do it but i just wanted to give you some crap about it but now you have to clear the auto tranny so it still wont be the smoothest of flow with the adaptor added to that set up since the mani is alread matched its gonna be like
----__----- where the manifold and adaptor meet unless that thing is long enough to clear

Mines ported out to 65mm as well....... for my FDP T/B......

I'll have to go out and take better pics of the manifold now, since the cars back on the road

I used a die grinder and cut off wheel to remove the unused tabs...... then sanded it down. On mine I used JB weld to fill any holes, and sanded it down. It turned out pretty good after getting Powdercoated Black Chrome (thanks to MillerPerformance.com)

Mastin..... I can get you a straight 2.4 - 2.4 Phenelic spacer....... I have to pick up a couple of them.

Hey speedracer, what paint did you use on that motor again, engine bay looks great so far. Should have painted the tranny black tho!!!

Re: Port matched HO manifold..not bad

The engine (blue) is done in VHT caliper paint...... The black is spray can gloss black...... the Gray is Black Chrome Powdercoat.......

I have a second trans case that I might clean up and have powdercoated the same Black Chrome..... or just black..... we'll see... for now I just cleaned it up.

I took some better pics of the intake today, with everything on it....... I'll try to get them up tonight.

oh the old 2.3 quads had the same configurations same transmissions... 4t40 in the 1995 jbodies and the 4t60's in the n bodies... no different... manifold obviously cleared fine because they came installed with log manifolds ...

so why wouldn't it fit with a 2.4 with an auto again?

adaptor flange. yeah right.

Well,
When I Was running the ghetto HO mani set up,
Meaning bad port matching,
I had to use 2 manifold gaskets to get things to clear.
Also there was this grounding bolt on the tranny I had to swap with a regular bolt.
But everything iwas fine.

So if i ever get a chance to install the thing I'll be ok.

Meantime,
Speedracer I'll have to think about the 2.4-2.4 flange..
Thanks for the tips on removing the humps n stuff,
And...........................................................
That front subframe K brace for autos would be nice too.

65mm?
I just don't see it.
