I jsut put a new 2.4l engine in my car (not my first time doing the swap) but this time when I started it, it jumps to roughly 4-5000 rpms and stays there. I can be in any gear or nuetral and it does the same thing (the front is still on jack stands) When I pulled the engine I marked all the wires so I know I have them in the right places. The only thing different is I took out the AC. Does anyone ahve any suggestions?

Check your vacuum, sounds like you got a leak. Start with the brake booster.
did you plug all the sensors in?
i have an idea......my 2002 has problems with the cruise control cable breaking. When this happens it can get stuck open therfore the throttle will go. you can take it off with your hands when the car is off. simply pull the cable back and slide it off. Might be something to check
All the sensors are hooked up besides CIA since I dont have the intake on there right now, but never had a problem with it any of the other swaps iv done.
Pass_the_J- Are you talking about disconnecting the cruise or both?
Tomorrow I will have to check for vacum leaks

change the IAC and hook it up.
its possible that the rest position the IAC is currently in is 'open'
4-5000 rpms, sounds like more than a little leak, look at the intake manifold to head area. i had a problem with my gaskets when i first did my HO swap. it would start up and rev to 5000 rpms like that.

definatly sounds like a vacum problem to me. Make sure all of the vacum lines are connected, expecially the ones going into the intake manifold
Also make sure your alternator is plugged in.. The plascit one coming from the harness..
I know on my old 2.2 I forgot to connect that when I started up the car and car jumped right up to 4500-5000 rpms and I could not figure out what happend until after about 20 mins, I realized I didnt have that plugged in

seriously, check the tb, if its a junkyard motor and there is a lot of crap built up, even the smallest gap can make that thing rev high. I remember on NJHK's car, we were driving down the road and all of a sudden he flags me down and his car is reving 3500rpms... We were like wtf, so I ripped off his charge pipe and looked at his tb, it was sooooo filthy that it wouldn't close all the way. I'm talkin, it looked fine, but it was just tweeked a lil bit and it would rev that high. check that!
