Well today after finishing installing my 2000 engine 2.4 in my 97 z24 it wont start ! it just cranks.. everything is connected . would this be a problem of the knock sensor ? i changed it. but i probably didnt do it right. the car has fuel 9 month old fuel but i guess its still good. when i push the key forward the theft system light comes on dont know if that has to do with anything. anything i should look for spesific ?
It is not because of the knock sensor, and it is not theft lock related. You need to check to see if you have spark and fuel. The age of the fuel should not be a issue either.
FU Tuning
ok well i unpluged the fuel like that goes the the fuel rail i expected to get socked in fuel.. nothing not a drop.. my fuses are good. well i dont know about the one in the engine compartment cause its gray. i installed another one about 1 month ago and it worked fine int he same car. could it be that the fuel pump just went ?
Sounds like it. Good guess #1. You should get a little gas without the key in the "ON" position from the rail. Maybe either the pump bad or filter clogged (doubt). Try checking the fuel pressure mid-way in the lines with the key in the "ON" position. Gas in the tank may be good but has a bad problem with geling in smaller lines.
Good guess#2 Make sure your Ignition module is hooked up. But normally, if that wasnt hooked up, as the engine turns, you'd be high from the gas fumes.
Good guess #3 Make sure you didnt miss anything. Double check it all again. May suck but unless you like walking, then it might be worth your time.
Anything like sensors would be called out by the ecu.Besides that... Good luck and let us know what it was. Your guess is as good as mine from here on.
it could be theft lock related because that is the problem i had when the ignition was acting up in my 97
Well today i replaced the fuel pump and guess what is not it.. im thinking its electrical now.. like i said before all the lights come on when i try to start it. theft system ass well. wahts the way to reset a 97 z24.. ive read other post but its not working for me.
Check the crank sensor to MAKE SURE it is plugged in. That itself wont let the car start. Double check to make sure.
would that send the signal for the fuel pump not to function at all.. i disconnected the fuel lines from the back to see if anything was flowing at all .. its dry as a bone. but the crank sensor is the one under the oil filter right.
did you let the motor crank for awhile, cause when i replace the filter and the lines where dry, i had to let it crank for almost a min, before gas got there, and it started, idk just a tip hope it helps.....
All your lights are supposed to come on while in the on position, even the theft system, but when you crank it on, its supposed to all clear out as it goes thru its check points. Even when you leave it on the "ON" position without cranking it'll clear out some lights.
However, to reset the newer GM's... You have two ways
1) disconnect the battery for a half hour. (GM mech. said thats the easiest way clear "check engine" light problems and reset ecu without the OBD II scanner)
2) look in your fuse boxes (both in the car and engine bay) for a fuse/relay thats marked ecu, pcm, computer control, etc... whichever ways it says and remove it with the key in the ignition (NOT in the "ON" or accessories). Pull out the key and reinstall the fuse.
Both will reset the ecu so if it is a theft system issue, this should do it. Also, check to see if you have a fuel cut-off relay/fuse and check it out. Besides that refer to Fst Cavy or Cavy Crazy cause Im fresh out of ideas. If you have insurance, blow it up and get another cavy! j/k
If it is the theft system issue, its almost like you hooked up the battery before you fully finished the swap. No offense.
They just HATE it when you ...POINT - LAUGH - then DRIVE OFF AND AWAY-!...
well yeah im pretty sure its electrical i tryed for hours to disable the theft system but no luck. but my dad tells me that while back when we had an engine in there that it made some kind of short and the red side of the battery plastic thing was melting.. now my question is if it did cause some kind of short were would it take affect in ? my fuses are ok.. my ECU ?
Can you hear the fuel pump cut on? Climb under the spare wheel well of the car, have someone turn the key to the run position, you should hear a buzz for about 3secs. If you do not hear that buzz and you just bought and replaced the fuel pump its something in the power supply for the fuel pump (fuse, relay, etc). Are you getting spark?

So somthing grounded on the positive side of the battery either on the battery or along the cables. Pray you didnt short the ecu(doubt again), or fry a circuit. Worst comes to worst, you might have follow the positive cable and look for a chared/burnt area. If its grounding to somewhere else on the car, its not getting to your starter. Might be worth your time to even look inside the cable itself. If you temporaily grounded it, the cable might just be too fried to transfer energy.
(sigh)... Im trying man but Im running out of loop holes for you to hop out of but.... Might have to take it to a shop (you trust) and have them do a elec. diagnostic. Cash = a running Car = a happy JBOeon = a happy mechanic
Let me know how it goes

You can't run the 00 PCM program... but the PCM (physically!) is the same part between something like 96 and 02... so if you go and get your 2000 reflashed at a GM dealer to the 99 auto program. 98 you don't want... it's got EGR programming. 00+ has Class 2 programming.. no good. 99 is the only year that will work.
