Hello. I have just recently purchased a 1996 cavalier Z24, but the motor was bad and the man i bought it from did a swap, but im not sure if its the 2.2 or the 2200, or if they are the same motor. Now i have lost contact with him and i dont know which motor is in my car. Could some one tell me the difference in the motors and how to tell which one it is. i did a search on here and i couldnt get nothing out of it. I appreciate any help. thanks. john
if it is a Z24, it shouldn't be a 2.2 or 2200. it should be the 2.4 twin cam.
If the intake tube goes to the back of the engine (near the firewall) its a 2200

If it looks like this:
it is the 2.2 (clicky for fullsize)
yes i know, but the guy that swapped the motor already had a different motor and decided it was worth all the work to swap all the wiring, or so he said. im just wondering what the difference is between a 2.2 and a 2200 if there even is one. and if there is how can you tell the two apart? thanks.
ok. thanks. the pics is all i needed. i appreciate it. john
on a 96 which is what you say you have the 2.2 and the 2200 are one in the same the real difference is in the cylinder head all the intake and exhaust bolts are different. but in 96 the only 2.2 that existed was the LN2 but your car being z24 should be a 2.4 twin cam LD9. hope you didnt pay the guy for a z24 price tag.

Some Z24 convertables came w/ 2.2's.
However, if you noticed, the engine was swapped for either the 2.2 or 2200... doesn't necessarily mean it's a 1996 engine.. could be a 1999 engine, which would make it a 2200
