Sunfire boggin issues.

Hello, I have a 1998 pontiac sunfore GT. I have had the car for 9 years and it has been a very, very good car. It now has hit 280k miles with no problem and has never been in a shop. It will need a clutch soon and i plan on doing some other repairs. My problem is it has always bogged every now and then when i go to take off. It will bog a few times then pick right up and run fine. It only does it when I go to take off from a stop. Its wierd because most of the time its fine. I want to get this fixed so if anyone knows what the cause could be please let me know.

Thanks

probably your IAT sensor located on your intake tract tube.

Hey cavmania, can you explain why the IAT sensor would do that?

I think that makes sense. I have a CAI and it (IAT) has been removed for the past 5 years. My brother also is having this problem as of recently. He has a the same exact car with way less miles and his just started doing it last month. He used to have a CIA, but went back to the stock box. Theres no codes thrown on either cars. At one point I had a resistor pluged into it but removed it. Why does it cause this hesitation?

Your ECM uses the IAT to correct the amount of fuel based on the amount of oxygen in the air (colder air=more oxygen). If your IAT is remote mounted (i.e. not in the intake track) you will be telling your ECM that you have more oxygen present than what is reallity and cause it to add more fuel. Our cars run rich as it is, there isn't really any reason to make it run any richer.

^^^^I'm not going to say the IAT is your problem... but it is a possibility.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.

When is the last time Its had a tune-up? I just noticed the other day that my IAT sensor wasnt in the intake tube at all, and it was running fine. Runs better now, but it wasnt chugging or bogging or anything. I say check plugs and wires, if the car runs fine at idle and under constant speed, this might be your problem. Maybe the cat is getting clogged?

I cant think of anything "routine" otherwise, unless something is on the fritz, a sensor or electronic something somewhere.
