I have heard rumors that Pacesetter headers have a tendency to crack. Most of this is from another forum (www.mightyd50.com) that I often visit to read up on parts for my Mighty Max. Pace Setter had been the only place to make a header for that truck, and most have said theirs have cracked. I have also read in another thread here that someone has had their's crack on their Cavi. I believe the Monza exhaust system had a decent sound to it. I am pretty sure that is what my friend was running on has Cav in Ohio.

Iv,e got a FULL pacesetter exaust on my 2.4 (headder and downpipe, high flow magnaflow cat, mandrel bent exaust pipe going to a monza muffler. All pacesetter exept the cat. I've had it on for a year and a half with no prolems. It,s nice, just a little louder than it should be though.

I haven't heard of anyone's Pacesetter header cracking on this forum. if it did happen, 1 header out of probably the hundreds (or more) sold to j-body owners isn't bad.
I've got the Pacesetter on my 2.4, and I'm using the Pacesetter on my Eco swap. it's the only header brand I'd use on my car.

I've had my Pacesetter for over 3 years without any problems. There can be a universal issue of the header cracking if the engine is rocking too much, and after market engine mounts can remedy that.

So, I don't know what setup those Mighty Max owners were using but if they have a lot of engine movement over time I can see that wearing on the header enough to crack it. That's the same with just about any car though.. I have heard of a lot of J owners who are running Pacesetter on their stock mounts without any issues though. I have heard of 2 owners that had issues with their header cracking but there's always going to be some percentage of failure no matter what brand you go with.. Like I said though, if you use an upper engine mount insert at the very least you will not have any problems since cracking can be from defects but it's primarily due to the engine movement rocking back and forth.

I wouldn't sweat it.. You'll be fine.

Would a flexpipe also remedy that issue if you don't want to use engine mounts?

Well.. yes, it would to an extent.. There have been people crack the header at the collector, and a flex pipe would remedy that. My Pacesetter came with a flexpipe so I know it definatly helps. Although.. I am using the upper insert and RK lower mount too, so the engine isn't even really moving much in the first place..

the pacesetter uses a ball and socket connection at the downpipe, which gives you your swivel, instead of a flexpipe. As long as you dont overtighten the spring bolts, the header can move with the engine, and wont crack due to the rocking of the motor. i have one on my 2200, the only problem I had is the ceramic coating chipped off the downpipe where it wraps behind the oil pan (perpendicular to the road, and all the debris that is kicked up from it.

Derp, that's right.. I keep confusing a ball and socket spring bolt design with a flexpipe one. You're right John.
