RK Sport Header-Take a look at these pics
Thursday, February 14, 2008 1:07 PM
Well I noticed that when I got the header, there were black marks of exhast leakage on all of the ports. I also read that RKS headers leak. So I took the header to 3 machine shops, non of them could machine it flat. So I bought a good file and I have a big piece of granite and checked to see if it was flat. Now I know that it wont be perfect, but it will sure tell me if its warped. So I put a flash light behind it and there was the beam of light. So I filed and filed, the light got less and less. So I just wanted to show pics before I finish up.

Oh dont get me wrong, its a nice piece, much better than the OBX. They just stoped at the last point of the build, which is clean up. The most important part.

would probably make more sense to have it filled then reground. and if a machine shop couldnt machine it flat, how are you going to get it right? id have TIG'd some metal in there then machined it back down. just my .02

Oh @!#$ I just noticed a big problem. This header has the EGR built in, but my car does not have one. So looking at the header, and the stock gasket, the gasket will overlap the part that is machined out for the EGR an leak gas. I know that i covers it, but there is no bead on that part so there will always be a leak.

No need to buy a block off plate. The 00-02 exhaust gasket covers it that is how gm blocks it from the factory.

My bad I did not notcie 97cavie had already mentioned that.

yep, get a 00-02 stock mls gasket... i just bought one yesterday from GM, $28.00. pry get it cheaper from somewhere else tho. its really up to you as to what you would like to do, you can get the block off plate from GM for under $10.00, IIRC mine was $6.00.

wade, so this is the header I sold you? wow... i had no idea the flange was f'd up....

yep I had no idea it was messed up either. I could have sworn it did not leak on my car at least no that I noticed. By the way this header is like the slut it has been in more guys hands than most girls that get called sluts.

^^^ hahaha, to damn funny. But I was thinking that it would leak where the egr part is machined out of the header because the manifold gasket that I have has no EGR, so when I put it up to the manifold, the bead on the port is no longer sealing all the way around it. Does anyone know the orignal owner of this header?

Well I have no leaks and it runs good. One thing though. It is hitting the frame, where the flex joint is. Is there anyway to make something to fit so that it does not rub. The other thing is the crusie control, it wont fit. Right now I have it being held by one bolt, any fix for that? Besides that it sounds rediculas and I bet the HP improvements are good as well. I can post pics if you would like

for the cruize, just re-locate it somewhere in reach of the cable.

Any Ideas about the flex joint? I just started it again and its rubbing bad. I know that I need all need all poly, but there has to be some way to make it so that its not rubbing.

The flex joint hitting the frame is a common issue with the header.

Best thing I guess is just to be mindful of road bumps, and parking lot speed bumps.

seriously just get the solid mounts, their pretty cheap so....

So you think that poly mounts would do it? I know all the busings up front need to be replaced, but there has to be some type of fix for this. Its a bad ass header, and the car sounds insane with it.

I had poly mounts the only thing that hit the frame was the body of the universal O2 sensor I used since the stock was not long enough.
