I am going to ditch my 3" exhaust because It is annoying on the highway and everytime I hit a bump it makes a loud clunk. not to mention I found a spot that it is starting to melt my gastank.
Anyways I was thinking something like this.
(I was bored...) I could just open up the cutout at the track and keep it closed on the streets. It should sound decent regardless of what muffler I use. I already have a catback that is 2.5".
I just don't know if all this stuff will fit under there? I grabbed a rough measurment and found between 42-45". I don't have quite as much room as everyone else because there is a flexpipe built into my DP and it takes up a few inches. I am also going all stainless this time to avoid any rust.
What do you think?

Doof! The system is gonna go nuts wondering what happened to the exhaust gases once the post-cat EGO sensor stops seeing after-cat exhaust. Every time you open that dump it's gonna throw code like an HD special needs kid with bi-polar in a pie fight. In other words: Forget it!
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
use HPT to disable the rear O2 sensor related CELs and you'll be fine
Oh yeah... I forgot about that! Odd since my bud was here earlier doing some remote tune parameter setting with an HPT for another guy who's gotten the same fault code.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
Use the magnaflow 18" resinator then to save you 4" i had teh 18" on my old car sounded great
Quick question... I was thinking about the 02 sensor being a problem, but I already have a permanent CEL. So my only question is when I open the cutout... will it throw my car into "limp mode" or just throw a code that won't affect performance? I have the GM Reflash if that makes any difference at all.

OR YOU COULD LEAVE YOUR SETUP THE WAY YOU WANT IT AND BUY AN O2 SENSOR SIMULATOR FROM AFTERTHOUGHTSAUTO.COM. ITS LIKE $30 AND WORKS GREAT!
the post cat 02 will not throw the car into limp mode..the 02 is only there to monitor catalytic performance...itll set a code/light..but wont affect your A/F ..the first 02 does all that
At first I was all like... why does this guy need a cutout? A super mega loud jbody is something nobody wants to hear.
Then I saw your sig and I bowed down before you.

Thats a great idea, but what about when the cutout is closed? Would it still run off the sim or would it use the real 02 sensor?
ps: Stop yelling..lol Turn off the caps man.

I already have a code that won't go away... So as long as its not affecting performance, then I really don't care.

Lol Thanks! Compliments are always welcomed and appreciated. And I know no one wants to hear a mega loud J body thats why I want to run the cutout. So I can have my exhaust however I want... (nice and quiet), without restricting performance.
I also received the QTP cutout yesterday! So I would really like to use it! The quality is lacking is some areas, but overall... It's Purdy!
I'll try to get some pics.

Sounds like whoever made your exhaust cut some corners.. I have no problem at all with mine... No clunks/vibrations or anything....

I think there is only one place that makes a 3" exhaust for our cars. And when I got mine it didn't fit correctly. We had to modify the hell out of it. and THAts why it doesn't fit right.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about the 02 simulator. If you're only disconnecting the cutout for the track it probably won't throw the code, right away.
I believe it would still run off the sim. Mine is just a long temporary change, I have had it in for about a year no problems, but in april im getting tuned with hpt and that sensor/code will be overriden.
My exhaust consists of a qtp electronic cut-out and a dna muffler, thats it ..... no cat or resonator! Sounds beasty! The turbo spool is rediculous sounding out of the cutout!
