is the l61 a zero clearance engine?
if you are talking about an interference engine, yes it is. if the timing is off valves and pistons will hit

The one, the only, ME.

I think all engines put into J's are interference motors are they not? I know the 2.2l OHV, 2200 LN2, and the Eco are...is the LD9?

im just trying to rule out all the possibilities before i pull the head, but now looks like i have no choice
Just do a compression check or better yet, pull the valve cover and see if any valves are stuck open and not supposed to be (rocker of that valve will be on base circle of cam lobe but valve will be stuck open) That will tell you if you have a bent valve.

allready had the valve cover off, went and checked and couldn't see any stuck valves. would the timing chain guide cause it to lose tension enough to jump timing if said timing chain guide was destroyed?
