Hey guys I have a 2000 Z24 5spd and purchased one of the Griffen aluminum radiators and it has a built in trans cooler which I would like to use as an engine oil cooler since I will be running a turbo. I was wondering if this will cause any adverse affects on engine oil pressure & flow and also what size lines sholud I use and should they be hard lines or braided flex lines?
If your planning on running the cooler inline with 100% of the flow running through it I'd look for -10AN (1/2" ID), a -8 (3/8" ID) is the next size down and I think thats a little too small for 100% flow.

3/8" will be plenty. However i wouldnt plumb it in to take full delivery, i would add it on as an accessory instead of making the engine oil run through it to feed the engine.

Im running my oil cooler with a thermostat filter standoff deal. Its a progressive oil diverter with temperature(diverting through oil cooler) starting around ~130F or so and I have a cooler with 1/2" lines to and throughout the cooler.
same here..i thought the cooler on my griffin had too small a fitting so i used a front mounted cooler...1/2" lines...with a thermostat adaptor..oil flows thru the cooler above 160* and feeds the engine from there
Ok thanks for the info guys, I'll just do a separate oil cooler with -10 an lines.
you can cool something else with is...like ps....but if cooling oil, yiou need a t-stat controller for it....which are usually sandwich deals.
I have the oil thermostat that fits inline betweent the incoming/outgoing oil cooler lines that I could use if the fittings in the radiator cooler were large enough for engine oil cooling.
Hmmm, no thermostat on my oil cooler.
I really don't see the need for one.
I've had no issues with the engine temperatures and all seems well so far.

oil,just like engines, have an "operating temperature" ....just like getting too hot oil can be too cold for "optimum performance" ...you want your engine oil to be hot..just not TOO hot..you also dont want it too cold..hence the point of the thermostat
This is something I still want to do. During the last group purchase I asked if I can get larger AN fittings on the tranny cooler, but I can't find the PM on what the response was.

Yea I was hoping to use it since I am building a turbo setup with a fmic it would sure save some space and I know the oil is going to be hotter since it has to pass thru the turbo.
