Ok so I have a 94 Cavalier (yes its OBD1)... I have been looking for a performance chip... It has a 2.2 w/ a manual tranny.... I have found somewhere to custom burn me a chip but it will be well over $200.... I have found them prettty cheap for OBD2 vehicles but I cannot find any at all for the OBD1.... Anyone know where I can get one????

You found them cheap for OBD-2 because they are junk scams. They are expensive for OBD1 because they work.

The "Cheap as in $20" is for an resistor used to fake a sensor reading that in the end doesn't work.

OBD1- Chip for "$200" is an actual programmed PCM Eprom that has (hopefully) had real development (i.e. dyno testing). The changes its makes are hard coded into the PCM instead of just shifting an input. And the changes are real and solid and won't tune themselves out over time.

Ok so I have heard a resistor would be maybe a dollar from radio shack. It might trick the ecm into thinking it is colder. Which would dump more fuel... I am racing this car on a 1/4 mile oval track.... It has no road time ever... If this would give me any kind of improvement I would consider it great..... Where and how would I install the resistor????

More fuel wont do anything positive unless your adding more air.

I have added a 2 1/2 inch hole into my airbox to take in more air... It now has two 2 1/2 inch holes in the airbox along with a K&N air filter.

which doesnt add more air, only makes it easier for the car to get the same amount of air.

pay to burn one
if nothing else, they can raise the rev and speed limiters way above reality which might come in handy coming out of a turn.

nothing else cheap can do that.

Or PM me.
In all likelyhood, I can do a chiop for you that will have decent results and will probably do it cheaper.

I wouldn't be able to perfect it, but I could make improvements.
But I would need your current chip to start from also.

You've come-along with quite request in this situation. The problem is this: All aftermarket suppliers (Be it performance or customization) mostly supply only for what's primarily most popular in the now. This is true with anty era of automotive hobbist, be it the early-days, the van-era or now. And since you have a car built with a combination of an engine that's considered more "cult" in it's terms of popularity in a model-year that most enthusiasts of that body-style won't go for on average (Majority preference of OBD-II over OBD-I because of "Ease of tuning") , you're kinda screwed.

If this were an S-truck, I'd refer you to STS (Sport Truck Specialties) Performance for a chip. But since there are considerable differences between the S-truck & J-car app (Intake manifold runner length, lack of electric cooling-system fan) I wouldn't dare out of fear of you getting something that won't work right. Sorry, but I'm afraid protomec's offer is the only one you can take, unless you're willingto spend the money for it to be sent-away & back. But I should warn you (No offense, protomec) that sometimes doing it cheap will get lack-luster results, as opposed to doing it where it's guaranteed right for the money.

It's your choice...

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

put down the hole saw and credit card, and pick up a book about engine performance

learn (about engines) before you burn (money on useless shi+)
