im recently new to the website and j-body cars .. ive been reading and trying to see what can be done to my car..
my car is a 95 sunfire sedan. w/ a 2.2L (im guessing 2200 their called) and it's runs but has high mil(168k+). and tranny is starting to show signs of it. (all org. eng and trans).. im just wondering what engine and trans combo's i have to put in my car..i want more power but i dont want to get too involved in the transplant.. what i want is a z motor (eco) in my sundan. to do this what would be needed (wiring harness ,ecu, mounts, etc ) if someone could help me in this area i would deff. appreciate it . also if u could tell me other GM cars i could get engine combos from.... thanx spanky...
Welcome to the site! Personally I do not think an engine & tranny change is an easy task. You would have to replace the wiring for the new engine if you went with an ecotec. I am no expert on engine changes either. If you like shifting then an engine with a five speed might help. I hope the resident experts will give you some of their thoughts on this. It sounds like you could spend a lot of money to get what you want. How about all the time you will have the car down to get those changes done if you are doing the work.
A Ecotec is called a "Z Motor?" Never heard that before....
The "Z" engine is the 2.4(LD9). The Eco is just the standard engine from 03' to 05'(was an option in 02').
The 2.2 didn't become commonly referred to as the 2200 until 1998 also.
But as for a swap, I say do a 5 speed swap, rebuild the 2.2, and then boost it. Can you rock that?
And the Ecotec is still a standard engine.
Actually since the car is a 95 and probably OBD1, swap in a 2.3L Quad 4 from a 95 Z-24.

The 2.2 OHV and the 2200 are different engines.

^Different, but same.
"I rock" the J-body? Unless you have a mullet, we need to talk.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
from the head up the two motors are different but for the most part the rest are the same
yea, sorry for destroying the engines. like i said i'm new to the gm family i usually drive imports. thanks for the info it's more than i knew before..so my engine is a 2.2 ohv ..would a trans from newer j's work w/ my engine ?? im just trying to see my options for the car..

I just rebuilt one, converted it from tbi to mpfi and am in the process of boosting it. So no need to try and make me look foolish about the 2.2s
