No Mufflers on Exhaust??
Saturday, May 09, 2009 1:18 PM
Hey

goint to be doing my exhaust shortly, and wanted some input. i have a LD9 and i will be installing a pacesetter header and magnaflow 2.5" high flow cat, followed by an 18" resonator

i'm planning on running dual exhaust, and was curious what i'd be getting myself into should i decide to run two 14" resonators instead of mufflers. my biggest concern is raspyness, so i was entertaining the thought that three resonators are better than one haha!

let me know what you think. any input is appreciated

without chambered mufflers, your exhaust will be extremely raspy.

i have a pacesetter header, no cat, 2 18" cherry bomb resonators (back to back) and nothing else. Its not very raspy but its loud when you step on it. I was in a cometition with it and hit 166.9 dB under no load with the 4000rpm rev limiter. Oddly enough i have never had issues with cops either.

Dodge Neon SRT-4's get away with 2 12" resonators and no mufflers, they have some rasp to them but not horrible but they are pretty damn loud but you have to consider that their turbos help quiet their exhaust down a bit. I would say, if you plan to go thru this with no mufflers, put the largest and longest resonators you can on.

When I switched to a chambered muffler I developed rasp, I had a glasspack on for a week and it sounds awesome, but really loud, Although I dont have a cat anymore either so that prolly makes most of the rasp

I have no header, deleted cat, and a magnaflow cat back and no res. No lie, the thing is raspy and loud as hell but I have pretty decent top end. I'll take performance over sound any day, but thats just me.
