So i've decided that i'd like to do the swap from a 2.2 to a 2.4.
How would i go about doing this? Would it be a hard process? And anybody know of what a price range would be to do the swap?
You might be better off swapping the 2.2 OHV for a 2.2 EcoTec. I forget if the 2.2 OHV to 2.4 Quad-4 requires the dash harness to be swapped. If it dose the 2.4 and 2.2 Eco are juast as hard as the other to do and the Eco-Tec will give you more options for tuning,
As for a walk though of doing said swap. There is quite a few threads on this site that have covered 2.4 swaps, Eco-tec swaps and even V-6 swaps. The search feature on this site is your best friend here and most things have been covered atleast once here.
I miss my Cavalier, even if it made 100 hp on a cold day and had more suspension then it deserved.
i could swap it out for a v-6??
Click on third gen tab on left side and look at the sticky...

2005 Mazda 3 GS Auto- Wifes car
2006 Cobalt SS/SC - Intake, 2.5" Exhaust, GMPP Brakes, Solid Mounts, Ported S/C - Sold
1991 GMC Sierra - Lifted on 38.5" Swampers, Too much to list off. For Sale
You have a 2000... Both the 2.4 and the Eco will be about equal swaps...
You'll need: Engine, Trans, PCM, Engine Wiring, Radiator, Upper Motor Mount. Make sure you get your engine + parts from a 2000-2002 2.4 LD9 or 2002-2005 Eco L61
In neither case will you need to rewire under your dash... The only case where this would be true is if you had a 95-99 and tried to swap an Eco in to it... The 2.4 swaps between all years from 95+ without a major wiring nightmare.
Assuming you pull a motor/trans from the yard...
Quote:
*2.4L tranny Will come with the engine and trans.
*Tranny mountsWill come with the engine and trans.
*bolts for the tranny mounts Will come with the engine and trans.
*bolts that go through the mounts Will come with the engine and trans.
*Chassis brackets (need to be MIG or TIG welded) You will have to do this with either 2.4 or eco swap... you will not need this with the V6 Swap
*Flywheel Will come with the engine and trans.
*Flywheel to crank bolts Will come with the engine and trans.
*Pressure plate Will come with the engine and trans.
*pressure plate to flywheel bolts Will come with the engine and trans.
*clutch plate Will come with the engine and trans.
*alignment tool You will not need this if you do not separate the trans and engine
*slave cylinder Will come with the engine and trans.
*Both axles Make sure you pull these from the donor
*Complete front wiring harness(different sensors) Make sure you pull this from the donor
*ECU reprogrammed by GM Make sure you pull this from the donor
*Shifter You will not need this if you are already 5 speed
*shifting cables You will not need this if you are already 5 speed
