RSM brakes - loose pin/knocking sound
Wednesday, February 07, 2007 10:27 AM
I have the RSM big brake kit comversion on my SF all around. I had to replace my front pads recently. the pads came with new pins. The problem that I'm having is that when I'm idleing forward from stationary position, it sounds like my pads are sticking to the rotors and it rattles until I get going. At normal driving, you can just barely hear the brakes knock. But applying slite pressure without slowing down, the knocking get louder. If I apply the brakes to slow down and stop, the knocking goes away until I release the brakes. I noticed that the new pins were loose unlike the pins that came with the brake system. The pins that came with the brake system were pretty tight. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this. Do I just need a larger pin? Since RSM is gone now, I'm in need of some help.

Thank

best is to pull the wheels and make sure the pads dont move

yup, i had this problem

the cause is probably on the pads, there's a metal tab that you can bend out to keep the pad in position. eventually it might rust and break off.

causes a rattle at low speed (the whole caliper assembly with pads will move up and down)

14.82 @ 97 mph
